Kites didn't go straight back to the facility.? He spent a few hours circling in the sky, held aloft by the rolling pockets of hot air that rose off the many high rise buildings of Port Vega.? It wasn't just to enjoy being out, no.? His cartwheeling had a purpose.? As he lazily floated about, he kept scanning the city streets below, his eyes focusing on the many faces of the populace milling about, everyone rushing about like rats in a maze.? He tried to specifically focus on anyone who might have fit Gen's description of the person who attacked her, but that was like searching for needle in a haystack.? Way too many people fit into the definition and he couldn't possible keep track of them all, so he gave up.? This was just going to be a waste of time.

Once he got inside Chord's compound, he made a beeline to Chord's office.? The same lady that he been greeted by the day before was still there, though he wasn't sure what he expected...Would Chord have a rotating shift of different people?? When she looked up at him, Kites smiled, adjusting the collar of his shirt.

"Good morning...afternoon?," he said, suddenly forgetting what time of day it was.? Raising his arm, he looked at his wrist.? The normally blank face lit up once it sense Kites looking at it and an analog clock popped up, though based on Raine's instructions, he knew that it was still a digital display.? The hour, minute and second hands were more welcome though.? It was more familiar than the stiff, boxy look of the pixelated numbers.? Ah, it was the early afternoon now.? "Good afternoon...sorry about that.? Is Chord available?? I've got something important to speak to him about."

[NPC Chord, NPC Harrison, NPC Sherise]

“Have we identified who it is that did this?” Chord asked Harrison.

“Yes, We have determined that the person who did this calls himself Lightening Rod. Apparently, he is so desperate to get noticed he put the video up on the internet almost immediately.” Harrison said.

“And how is that going for him?” Chord said. Harrison looked up at him and smirked. “Please tell me more about this Lightening Rod.” Chord asked.

“Since he posted the video using his own IP address, he is practically an open book to us. And I didn’t even need Ireland or our hackers to help me. I did it all myself.”

Chord smirked. “Well good for you . And thank heaven for those who are so desperate for attention. So please my darling read on.”

“With pleasure, “Harrison said handing him a picture. “His name is Roderick Hamlett, but he goes by Roddy. Hence the name Lightening Rod.”

“Do we know any more?” Chord asked.

“Oh we know a lot more. We have his phone number and his address.” Harrison said.

“What about his backstory?” Chord asked.

“Well he is working to be a super villain,” Harrison said “So what do you think his backstory his?”

“Well a good superhero or supervillain can only have one quintessential backstory.” Chord said. Harrison waited. “Well the classic Batman backstory love. Grew up with money, something happens to his parents, he becomes and orphan. Yada, Yada, Yada.” Chord said. “he wants to be a supervillain, so he most likely does not have an Alfred.”

Harrison smiled. “No, he doesn’t.”

“Ah, so that means he grew up in a foster home. If he wants to be a supervillain then he most likely a jerk which meant he got beat up a lot. Then he discovered his powers…most likely beating up a bully. And baddabomb, baddabing and we got Lightening Rod.”

Harrison clapped. “I am always so impressed when you do that.” She said

“I learned it by watching you.” Chord said with a smirk and wink. She smiled back. “Have they made contact yet,” Chord asked.

“I believe so. He got an Unknown Caller yesterday. Misty…said she was with The Benders of Light.”

Chord rolled his eyes. “The Benders.”

Harrison wagged her fingers at him and tsked. “Aurora doesn’t like that. You have to use their full name.” Harrison teased.

“Well when I meet Aurora, she and I can discuss it. Until them, I not calling them by that stupid name.” He said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something Raine came up with.” Harrison smirked. “You think that’s why they targeted Gen,” Chord asked.

Harrison shook her head. “I doubt they see him as anything more than someone with the ability to shoot lightning from his hands. And a hunger to belong. That kind of desperation, I am sure Aurora ?considers an asset. It means he can be controlled. Besides, Gen wasn’t on anyone’s radar, but the Russians. No one knew she was once one of our potential candidates, so there is no reason why they would think they could use him to get to us. Ever if there is a spy amongst us.

“Raine.” Chord said with a sigh.

Harrison nodded. “He was here tonight. He made contact with Kites on the roof and Mia as she left with Ireland.”

Outside in the outer office, Chord’s administrative assistant, Sherise looked at Kites and smiled. “Hi. Let me check for you.” After a few moments, Sherise nodded at Kites. “You can go in now.” At a conference table in the back of the room near the wall of windows over looking the city, Chord and Harrison watched the footage of Gen being shot down

As Kites came in, Chord and Harrison looked up at him. “Kites. We were just getting ready to send for you. How is Gen? Harrison was explaining that although she arrived ready to offer aid, Gen wanted no part of it. Is that true?”

"Hello, sir.? Ms. Harrison," he said, placing his hands at his side and bowing from the waist as is typical of the Japanese fashion.? It wasn't lost on him that as he walked in, the video of Gen's plight was playing front and center.? He watched for a minute as the recorded video played through Gen's plight, the camera shaking at times as this Lightning Rod first targeted the androgyne who was desperately trying to get away, as the air around her seemed to almost shimmer and in a flash, the display went blank white as lightning flashed and then suddenly Gen was hurtling down through the air uncontrollably.? The asshole laughed out loud, proverbially patting himself on the back as the camera then cut out, fading to black.? Kites felt his hands ball up into fists, his nails digging into the palms of his hands as he gritted his teeth.? He was angry, very angry and wanting nothing more than to pay this guy back tenfold but did he have the confidence, the willpower and the strength to do it when he failed so badly at the first day's training?

"Gen is doing alright.? She's slowly regaining her strength and her regen powers almost healed all the scarring and burns.? But yes, she was very adamant on being brought inside the lighthouse, and I couldn't say no," he said, bowing once again but this time solely at Harrison.? "Please excuse my rudeness at the time.? I understand fully now that my decision could have cost Gen her life, something that would've haunted me for the rest of my life.? But even though taking Gen to the medical facilities would've been the correct choice, it didn't feel right to do so..."? Kites paused for a few beats, heavily sighing as if he was releasing a lot of steam.

"Gen told me about this...asshole...that calls himself Lightning Rod," he continued after the pause.? "She described his build as lean, about her height and with long, blond hair.? Very young looking, baby-faced but could actually be older than he looks.? It seems that he may be working with the Russian gangs, though he did not sound like one himself.? Correct me if I'm wrong though, but based on the video, it sounds like maybe he thought he took Gen down?? If so, if she lays low for a while, that may take some of the heat off of her...though of course, it doesn't help that she's got a lot of history with them.? What can we...what can I do sir?? Is this what you were talking about regarding protecting the city?"? He was definitely hopeful that the Russian gang thought Gen of as dead.? Now, to keep her from getting tangled with them is another matter entirely.
