It was just past midnight when Sofia was disturb from her quiet evening studies from ancient texts in her den at the estate in Mexico. She was reading from an ancient Mayan spell book recovered by archaeologists she'd hired a year earlier to search some ruins in the jungles of the Coba region. Her research of the book had slowly been yielding results, but it was nonetheless worthwhile, as she found she was unlocking many lost powers of the arcane.
So when her maid informed her of a call from Javier, she was slightly annoyed at the interruption, but she knew her trouble-shooter would never call this late without good reason.
She picked up the cellular phone she used for private calls, the one she'd taken extreme measures to ensure was encrypted to the max for nearly assured privacy from prying ears and eyes.?"Javier," Sofia said warmly. "I trust all is well?" "Si, mistress," he replied. "We met with our Japanese competitor and I think we conveyed the message you wished for him to receive." "Good," she said. Then she paused a moment. "What is bothering you? I can tell this is about more than a business update."? Javier almost seemed to sigh before he began, "The local police don't seem to care about the earlier messages we sent to the Japanese and Jamaican competitors, but there is a woman asking questions."
Sofia was silent at first, then she continued, "A woman? Police?"
"No, sources tell me she is a private investigator," Javier said. "She may have been at the meeting site this evening. We noticed her following us afterwards."
Sofia allowed a long pause to linger for a moment, then she coaxed him, "And?"
"We led her to the Raconteur house, made sure she knew where we were staying," he said. "If she's nosy enough, she might decide to pay a visit and we can deal with her then." "Why do I get the sense you're not telling me everything, Javier?" Sofia asked. "They way she moved, the scent I got when I stepped out of the truck and she was near," the grizzled soldier explained. "I think she's one of my people."
Sofa frowned. "Payments were made to 'your people' in Raconteur. They assured us they would not interfere if we came there...in fact, they referred us to the Yakuza and Posse."
Javier cringed on the other end of the phone. He was not so certain of complete privacy on these phones. He was not one to trust technology. But he accepted that Sofia felt differently. "Nevertheless, jefa, she followed us and she's asking questions around town," Javier said. "What would you like me to do?" "If she becomes a problem, deal with her," Sofia said, her tone darkening. "But first, find out what you can about her and who she is working for. Meanwhile, I'll speak with my contacts there and find out if they have someone watching us." "Yes, jefa," he said.? "Anything else?" she asked. "No, everything else is going according to plans," Javier said.? "Good work," she told him. "Goodnight, Javier." "Si, mistress," he replied before they ended the call.
(Diego) Diego had heard Sofia's side of the conversation as he walked into the den.? He was currently in human form wearing a pair of black sweat pants and a tee shirt.? His feet were bare.? He was eating a ham sandwich, "trouble with the others?" He asked as he sat down in a nearby chair, ensuring to not drop any of the sandwich on the leather.? "We taking a trip soon?" He asked her with a smile.

Then the smell of something sweet hit the air, "mmm, after that funnel cakes." She suggested as they rounded a corner to see the board walk and all it had to offer, "ooh, and the roller coaster, front seat." she said with excitement.? She always loved roller coasters.

Bristling, Kutsuki slid the dagger across his wrist but instead of feeling the unforgiving bite of cold steel, all he felt was the scrape of wood across his skin, leaving no mark except a slight pink line from the friction due to the force he used to press down.? His cat-like eyes narrowed, pupils turning into mere slits as he scowled at Pyp who was absolutely loving every minute of it.? He scowled, going to rub his wrist where he expected to cut.? His skin did tend to bruise easily.
"I can see you are going to be every bit the pain in the ass like your name is," Kutsuki said, grumbling.? He watched with scorn as the demon planted his ass back into the chair, sipping on that poisonous alcoholic swill.? The imp then began listing off the reasons why he should be allowed to stay.? How charming.? First he insults Kutsuki's lack of demonic knowledge that he's spent years on absorbing, then inferring that he was also unable to protect himself.? But it wasn't till Pyp began showing his numerous lewd things that he felt his skin truly crawl.? Watching the tiny women gyrate, followed by men, all of various shapes, forms and sizes, made him visibly shiver and hug himself, visibly taken aback.? Just the thought of being in such close proximity with someone, much less than feeling their skin on his, truly made him him feel repulsed.? And now that he was privy to the state governor's hidden kinks and fetishes, he truly felt like he was going to vomit.? Stepping back a bit more, he used one hand to hide his eyes while he stretched the other out, imploring Pyp to stop this revolting display.? He was really trying not to let the contents of his stomach spill upon the floor.

The motion startled him but also broke him out of his frame of mind, bringing back to the reality of things.? The room was a mess.? Now that the summoning, as wrong as it was, had been complete, all of the materials that he's procured were now rotten, spent.? All candles melted to their cores even though they were previously whole and only slightly singed.? He couldn't let his parents seen any of those, not the demonic circle nor various occult things.? Not when the his image of the perfect child was at risk.
"If you want to prove yourself useful, then start by getting this room back in proper order," he said, looking around as he scratched the back of his head.? "My parents aren't exactly privy to this, nor do I ever want them to.? No one can know about what has transpired here."? With that, he started putting the rest of the still-intact jars away, picking up books and putting them back.? Ugh, what a headache.? All my efforts now a waste.
"How am I even going to keep you a secret?? It's not like you can stay invisible forever," Kutsuki grumbled, mainly to himself, as he continued to clean the room.

The fresh-faced demon couldn't help but notice Kutsuki's aversion bordering on revulsion to the more sexual and sensual elements of his demonstration.? Good to know, he thought to himself.? He wondered what lay behind or just below those reactions.
"Ah," Pyp said, smiling as he clapped his hands together in delight. "My first request." The demon paused to look about the room, assessing the details, then looked back at the pale youth who'd summoned him as if pondering something.? "Tell you what.? This one's on me.? A gesture of... good faith, as it were." He snickered at what was apparently some joke, to him anyway.? "And to keep you from making yet another rookie mistake."
The demon stretched out his arms, closed his eyes for a moment, and then turned gracefully around in a circle. As he moved, the room around him shimmered and blurred, but when he stopped after three rotations, everything snapped back into focus and the room was restored to the order it had been in before Kutsuki had begun preparing it for his summoning spell.? The chair and brandy set he'd created were gone as well.
"Better?" Pyp inquired when he faced his summoner once again.? "As for your parents not finding out what you've been up to down here, I can help with that.? And I don't have to be invisible for them not to notice me. Or anyone else for that matter, so long as they're just ordinary mortals and not someone with arcane skills or origins."
"So, have I smoothed your ruffled feathers sufficiently for us to have a civil conversation?" Pyp asked in what passed as a polite tone, for him anyway.? "Whether you believe it or not, I really am trying to protect you."

Scarlett watched the
meeting at the docks from her safe vantage point in the cab of
one of the big cranes used to load freight onto ships. She
used a camera with a zoom lens and night vision to photograph
Goro and the men he was meeting with. Watching them through
the lens, she suspected the older Hispanic man in the black
hat to be one of her kind...vampires could often recognize one
another from the way they moved, and if she'd been closer, she
would have been able to have smelled him.
The young man with the man in black seemed unusual, but she
could not peg him as a vampire. He was something else, not
human, but something. The redhead made sure to get photos of
each man. The minions with them looked to be human...foot
soldiers for whomever they worked for.
Scarlett could tell Nakamura didn't look too happy when the
meeting ended, he had a look of fear on his face. She'd seen
that look after their fight at the Glass Menagerie. When the
other group left in their vehicles, Scarlett exited the crane
and ran from the marina to her bike, which was parked nearby.
She hoped on and fired it up, then sped through a nearby
parking lot until she merged a ways behind the line of
vehicles. At a distance, she followed them as they headed into
the city...

As Kitty's feet hit the ground from the last part of the fire
escape on the Sabbat and she was trying to decide what do to
next her pager went off in her jacket pocket.? "Really,
tonight." She said as she pulled it out and recognized the
numbers that were on the dial.? She only carried the pager for
one reason, so that the Midnight Society could get in touch
with her.? She hated cell phones as she was a free spirit.?
With a resounding, surrendering sigh she put the pager into
her pocket and headed for the tallest building in town.? In
the basement was the Midnight Society's head quarters.? She
wondered what was so important that they had to call her in.

Luke woke from a dream. He only remembered bits and pieces. He saw the police cruiser tossed in the air like candy and crumple around the tree with a terrible crunch. His boat met a similar fate and that was what got him to his feet.
He stepped out of the small cabin on board the Divine Pleasure. The bright sun made him squint. Three men were chatting it up with Tiger. She lounged in one of the aft fishing chairs looking great as usual.?
¡°Hey skip, you sleep much? It¡¯s like after 2!¡±
¡°Enough, Luke said, his voice rough. You guys getting any fish?¡±
A chorus of positive words came from the three of them.?
¡°Keep at it then, we head back in an hour.¡±?
Luke pulled his phone and called the hospital. After a short conversation he smiled at Tiger, ¡°Maggie¡¯s going to be okay.¡±

The dream came back to him and he dialed Jones.

¡°You hear about Tad?¡±

Luke hung up the Sat phone and looked out into the Gulf. He was going to get dirty on this one, he felt it in the waves under his feet.
They were docked back at the Marina before Luke heard back.

¡°At the Henderson Mansion?¡±
¡°Yeah, out on Culvert, you know.¡±

Luke fired up his old pickup and spun the tires getting out of the parking lot. The last place he wanted to go was vamp central. That was just where he was headed.

The boneyard resembled many others he had seen.? The news that this heap was in a hangar instead of a spot in the junkyard made him mildly optimistic.? Then again, a "hangar" could simply be a spot cleared of crap and be the last landing spot before it was cut up for salvage.

Dale followed discreetly a couple paces back. He was nice and didn¡¯t think saying so at this point would get him a merit badge. He¡¯d save any digg at Ace for later when they trusted him and might not just shoot him out the airlock for fun.
This port was new to him. His freighter shuttle had landed at Vicksburg Station, the main Alliance port 8 clicks west. The smells here were just the same as anywhere. He heard the sounds of a riveter off in the distance, BAM! BAM! BAM!. Not unlike the sound a Canister 50 sounded when it blasted through your hull. That only had to happen once. Followed quickly by the sound of silence and empty space.

Several Alliance ships, raging from fast attack ships to enforcement vessels, a couple of Ocula class to half a Crete class heavy cruiser. As she rounded the corner of one of the Ocula class and there stood a large hanger.? There was a light coming from the bottom of the door. As Athena approached she stopped at the door. apart in hand-to-hand, but he was never rude about it, and
he usually managed a smile, somehow.? He never lost his

people lose their shit against him.
The boneyard resembled many others he had seen.? The news
that this heap was in a hangar instead of a spot in the
junkyard made him mildly optimistic.? Then again, a "hangar"
could simply be a spot cleared of crap and be the last
landing spot before it was cut up for salvage.
Well, whatever happens, happens, he thought, as they made
their way toward this hangar 12.
Dale followed discreetly a couple paces back. He was nice and didn¡¯t think saying so at this point would get him a merit badge. He¡¯d save any digg at Ace for later when they trusted him and might not just shoot him out the airlock for fun.
This port was new to him. His freighter shuttle had landed at Vicksburg Station, the main Alliance port 8 clicks west. The smells here were just the same as anywhere. He heard the sounds of a riveter off in the distance, BAM! BAM! BAM!. Not unlike the sound a Canister 50 sounded when it blasted through your hull. That only had to happen once. Followed quickly by the sound of silence and empty space.

Say within two weeks? As long as we both agree to this now, I can't see a reason not to work with the Benders of Light. As for a place to stay and benefits, you obviously know what I have. Though that does not mean I won't take you up on the offer. Would be nice to have a place to crash if I can't get home." She extended her hand.

He increased his score on everyone that came by his little alcove, but it was Mia and Ireland he was truly waiting.? He got tired of waiting.? He moved up to higher ground and looked around his eyes easily adjusted to the light since he could control it of course.? He didn't change into shadow, just to keep it a little fair.? He could see Mia moving along the wall and just as he was about to have an easy shot.? Four of the regulars got a plan to rush him up top.? He got three out of the four. He wasn't sure which scrub's stray shot got him but after a 40 second recover phase Mia was gone.? He mentally followed her direction, got down and began stalking her.? He made it a point to keep track of where Ireland was he hadn't forgotten his little sister either.? He came out to have fun with her and if this was good for her he was glad to be here.? He turned to Katya wondering if she had any questions.? He would have to find the Duke to confirm her story, besides that he needed to go and finally check on Arrow.
(Katya) Katya listened to the exchange of words and was curious when Zsa Zsa and Ashton mentioned goods of their own?? So, he had secrets as well.? She thought this had something to do with the human trafficking ring, but apparently it was something totally different.? Should she dare ask him what this?was really in regards to after not wanting to tell him about her own operations?? She simply shook her head when Ashton looked at her knowing that he was wanting to know if she had anything to ask Zsa Zsa.? She was really answering her own question.? She would just simply go along and eventually, all of her questions would be answered.

Chuckling she ran into the maze. Determine to let off steam and have some fun. Sure expected to be hit a few times. It was lazer tag. So of course she was going to be hit a few times. She had been training with Brandon and Chord and Harrison and Raine since she was twelve, she could do a course like this easy. But what was the fun in that. So she took easy. It was only when she noticed that Raine not only wasn't getting hit at all, but he was leading the scoreboard, that she realized he was cheating.
The asshole.
He just couldn't do it. He couldn't turn it off and just have fun. He had to be super Raine. Was that why he kept asking about Mia? He wanted to see what she could do? If she was one of Chord's new recruits. Damn him. Why did she even bother to ask him to come. She wondered if Raine's current activity of choice was doing it. Changing him... Hell the streets were talking and they had a lot to say about him. And it turned out that both he and Brandon were turning into people she just didn't know and more importantly people just didn't like anymore.?

Khadashee thought on all that Draven had said. Was it possible that someone was trying to hurt her? Was it possible that her babies were just caught in the cross fire? But why would anyone want to hurt her? Bakari and she had been in love since they were children. She was destined to be his and her his. Their wedding day was the happiest day of her life...second on to the day she learned she was pregnant the first time. Who would want to hurt that love? Why?
"I do not know. Everyone in the Palace was always so nice to me. I had been coming to visit Bakari and his family since I was a child and he and his family had been coming to visit my family. Why would anyone want to hurt me? Ethiopia was like a second home to me."
(Draven) Draven didn't respond, he just stood and let her think out loud.? The ship came about and the wind filled the sails.? It wasn't long before they were moving fast across the water, back on the course they were previously on.
He pulled out his spy glass after they had been sailing for an hour and knew they had crossed the earlier horizon.? With a smile, he looked at Khadashee, "we have caught up with Sa'id.? Look, there." He handed her the spy glass and pointed to where the other ship's sails could be seen.? He was glad they were able to find the man and hoped that he would understand what Draven was trying to do earlier.

"When Alexei told me that someone had managed to cause our dear friend Draven to settle down, I told him I just had to meet the woman who was able to get this confirmed bachelor to lay down roots." (Draven/Alex/Gregori) Alex gave Emily a little nudge when she made comment to Anais' age, "Now be nice," he said quietly under his breath knowing what she was up to.? "Well, we must have a celebration for your 21st birthday then, as well as your wedding." He said.
"When is the big nuptials going to take place?" Gregori asked as they all just seemed to stand around the parlor.
"Perhaps, we should all take a seat since we seem to be starting a reunion," Draven suggested as he took Anais by the hand to lead her to a chair.? "And some refreshments after all." He gave the bell pull a tug and shortly a few servants were present with some drinks and small finger sandwiches.

Scarlett watched the meeting at the docks from her safe vantage point in the cab of one of the big cranes used to load freight onto ships. She used a camera with a zoom lens and night vision to photograph Goro and the men he was meeting with. Watching them through the lens, she suspected the older Hispanic man in the black hat to be one of her kind...vampires could often recognize one another from the way they moved, and if she'd been closer, she would have been able to have smelled him.
The young man with the man in black seemed unusual, but she could not peg him as a vampire. He was something else, not human, but something. The redhead made sure to get photos of each man. The minions with them looked to be human...foot soldiers for whomever they worked for.
Scarlett could tell Nakamura didn't look too happy when the meeting ended, he had a look of fear on his face. She'd seen that look after their fight at the Glass Menagerie. When the other group left in their vehicles, Scarlett exited the crane and ran from the marina to her bike, which was parked nearby. She hoped on and fired it up, then sped through a nearby parking lot until she merged a ways behind the line of vehicles. At a distance, she followed them as they headed into the city...

As Kitty's feet hit the ground from the last part of the fire escape on the Sabbat and she was trying to decide what do to next her pager went off in her jacket pocket.? "Really, tonight." She said as she pulled it out and recognized the numbers that were on the dial.? She only carried the pager for one reason, so that the Midnight Society could get in touch with her.? She hated cell phones as she was a free spirit.? With a resounding, surrendering sigh she put the pager into her pocket and headed for the tallest building in town.? In the basement was the Midnight Society's head quarters.? She wondered what was so important that they had to call her in.
