Scarlett
MacAleister
Scarlett
climbed back on her bike as Luke went to his truck. "I'll
be in touch tomorrow, once I know if my computer guy can
get anything from their network."
She fired up
the engine, revved it a couple times then set out for her
apartment. A short time later she was there, back in
downtown Raconteur, at her apartment. The redhead took the
elevator up to her apartment and stepped into the lobby
area outside her door. Once she unlocked the door and was
inside, she set down her keys on the counter and checked
the place out to see if Snow was home. He was
gone...apparently still a little bent out of shape about
her refusal to turn him.
Oh, she
thought, if he only knew what he was asking for. Scarlett
stepped into the bedroom and removed her jacket, but
before she could lay it on the bed something caught her
eye. An object sitting on her pillows, something that
she'd not noticed there before going out for the night.?
It was a
stemmed, black flower...a dahlia. A chill sent down
Scarlett's back when she saw it and she took a step back.
"Can't be," she
muttered, reaching for her phone.? She called Snow and
after several rings, he answered.
"Some of us
sleep at night..." he barked.
"My room, were
you in here earlier?" she asked.
"No. Why?"
"You didn't leave a black flower on my pillows?" she
asked, still staring at the black dahlia.
"No. Is
something wrong?"
Scarlett went
around and checked the rooms more carefully, checking
windows and any other ways in or out. Nothing was
unlocked.?
"Red, you're
scaring me," Snow said, voice trembling.
"I'm fine," she
said. "Be here when I awaken, we need to talk."
"Sure," he
said. "Sweet dreams."
After he hung
up, Scarlett put the phone down and picked up the flower.
She looked it over then smelled it. "Eva," she whispered.
"It...it can't be."
Her mind then
began to drift, back to years earlier, to another place
and time....
