Luke
Luke had
followed the actions of the guards or whoever they were
that searched the property.? He'd lost track of Scarlett
long ago after she'd faded from the view of the poor
camera's view screen.? He kept low and followed the action
aware that she'd likely been discovered but not in the
physical sense.? Perhaps she'd tripped an alarm or someone
had noticed movement from a hidden camera. The emphatic
searchers continued without discovering the intruder.?
Luke held back aware any commotion from him would bring
immediate and unwanted attention.
Dogs growled in the distance and there came
sounds of pursuit. She had been found!? Luke prepared a
ball of water about the size of a balloon. The perfectly
round bubble of water hung suspended in the air a few feet
above his head.?
A sound came from the fence line. Luke
stepped back then gingerly spoke aloud, "Scarlett?"
Scarlett
MacAleister
Scarlett appeared
out of the darkness. "It's me," she whispered as she
approached Luke. "Let's go, I'll explain back by the road."
They made their
way away from the estate, through the woods and brush, until
they arrived in the vacant lot off the main road. When they
made it back to where her bike and his truck were parked,
Scarlett turned to Luke, "I managed to get inside...upper
floor. I found a computer and installed a program that will
allow a friend of mine to gain access to files. Not sure if
it will produce anything, but it's worth a try."
Back at the
estate, Javier Delgado came back down the stairs and met the
young Native American, Sani, in the living room of the big
house. Jablonski was there too and he looked to the grizzled
Mexican and frowned, "Dogs caught a scent, but they didn't
find anything. They got spooked a couple times...like
when..." the security guard paused a minute and fumbled over
his words. "L-like when they're around you."
Delgado nodded,
"I caught the scent too, upstairs. She was in the house.
Didn't stay long."
"Do you think she
stole something?" Redwind asked.?
"Hard to tell,"
Javier replied. "She might have been scared off because the
guards were looking for her."
"If there was a
person out there we would have seen them," Jablonski
sneered.
Delgado looked at
his with contempt, "Not if she is like me. So get your head
out of your ass Mike and double your guards. I want them
patrolling the grounds nightly."
"Yes Mr.
Delgado," Mike said.
The vampire put
his hand on Sani's back, "C'mon boy, let's go have a drink
and we'll play a game of chess. When the boss arrives, we
won't have much downtime left...she'll keep us busy every
night."
