Re: Hannah JACKSON

Hi

Birth certificates didn't come in until 1837, unfortunately, when civil registration was introduced. Before this time you're relying on parish registers.?

I couldn't find Hannah and Robert in the 1851 census - but there is a Hannah and Thomas ALVIN in Sunk Island - he's the innkeeper (maybe Robert's brother?)?

I found Hannah and Robert ALVIN in the 1861 census in Paull at?Land Cottage, Saltagh Lands, Paull, Patrington.?

Robert was 61? - so born 1800, in Paull and an agricultural labourer
Hannah was 62 - so born 1799 and gives her birthplace also as Paull - so that gives a timeframe and means Hannah would be about 23 when Grice was born and about 29/30 years old when she married Robert.?

There is a Hannah GREENSIDES daughter of Elizabeth JACKSON baptised in Paull on January 12 1796. Unfortunately she was buried the same day.

The only other one I could find around that time was Hannah WATSON - daughter of Ann JACKSON baptised in Keyingham December 20, 1798. That's a better fit time-wise - and - Hannah ALVIN died aged 84 in Hull in 1883. Her death was registered in Sculcoates - reference March Q 1883 9D 125 - but Hannah ALVIN of Hull was buried on Feb 14 1883 at Keyingham parish church. Sounds to me like Hannah being taken 'home' for burial.?

There are three Ann JACKSONs baptised in Keyingham in time to be Hannah's mum

1772 Ann - June 9, daughter of William (would be 26 when Hannah was born)

1777 Ann 19 Jan - daughter of Thomas (21 when Hannah born)

1780 Ann Nov 26 - daughter of Marmaduke (18 when Hannah born)

There's also a burial in 1805 Ann - daughter of John and Mary JACKSON, July 20 aged 24 - so that gives a birth date of 1871. She would be 17 when Hannah was born.

Ann JACKSON married George WALKER November 13, 1800 at Keyingham.... I wonder, though, if? Ann had a baby daughter, if they wouldn't have just called her WALKER - rather than her growing up as JACKSON??

Ann JACKSON married Henry Parker of Hollym - June 4,1811 at Keyingham

I also found in the York Herald of Tuesday April 12, 1887 a death notice for Grice's wife... JACKSON - on the 9th inst, Jane wife of Grice JACKSON at Withernsea aged 66.?

Hope that's some help

best wishes

Jane?

The reason I think the Hannah JACKSON who married to Robert ALVIN is Grice’s mother is because in some bios of Grice he said he was living at Cherry Cobb Sands where his parents farmed a smallholding. Grice age 5 or 9 left Owthorne and went to Cherry Cobb Sands. If I can find Hannah's birth certificate I think I will have the answer
