learn Yiddish with Lee Goldberg

From Lee/Leybl Goldberg:
I am scheduled to teach a beginning online conversational Yiddish class (they call the first level "Yiddish Foreigner") at the
Global Language Network (GLN), beginning in February.? The course will emphasize spoken Kiev Yiddish (with Power Point
presentations and handouts also including Yiddish text, i.e., in Hebrew letters) and will be conducted, as far as possible, in
Yiddish.? The classes are typically small (4 to 6 students). The time has not been set in stone (I proposed Sundays at noon,
assuming my evenings were going to be busy, but I'm flexible).? It can be a pleasant review for people whose Yiddish is rusty.
Of course, all accents are welcome, but I'm going to speak in my family's accent, except when clarification is necessary.
?
Contact me at lern_seykhl@... or 240-893-8385 for more information on content and levels.
Visit the GLN website <> for information on registration, educational approach, and costs.

A Yiddishe Zingeray – A Yiddish Sing-along

Yiddish Folksongs Online-Workshop led by Roman Grinberg

15.02. – 5.04.2021 | 19.04. – 21.06.202

Roman Grinberg leads a very special singing workshop: We meet online on Zoom and sing Yiddish songs together.
The program includes well-known songs as well as special rarities from the Yiddish cultural heritage.
No previous knowledge is required - neither Yiddish nor reading music.

Roman Grinberg is a singer, pianist, composer and arranger. Since 2002 he has been the Director of the Vienna Jewish Choir,
since 2013 the Director of the European Jewish Choral Festival, since 2014 the Artistic Director of the Vienna - Tel Aviv
festival and since 2017 the Director of the Yiddish Culture Festival Vienna. He grew up in the small shtetl Beltz in
Moldova with Yiddish as his mother tongue. He studied music at the Vienna Conservatory. Nowadays he is a sought-after
seminar leader and experienced vocal coach. In the international Klezmer festival scene, he is considered an expert
on old and new Jewish music in all of its forms, especially in connection with jazz and the music of other ethnic groups.

With this workshop we would like to reach out to people who are interested in Jewish culture in general and
in Yiddish songs in particular. First and foremost is the fun of singing Yiddish songs.

Do you speak Yiddish?
Fluently? Somewhat? Not at all? No matter how you answer the question, you are very welcome
in the group! By the way, singing folk songs is a great way to learn a new language.
What songs do we sing?
Folk songs, well-known and unknown songs, old and new songs, love songs, political songs,
Hasidic and anti-Hasidic songs, humorous and social critical songs.

The group meets virtually on Zoom. A new song is rehearsed at each session and all rehearsed songs are repeated
at the end of the series. So you can be sure that you will not forget these beautiful melodies.

Workshop series 1 - 15.02.2021 22.02.2021 01.03.2021 15.03.2021 22.03.2021 29.03.2021 05.04.2021

Duration: 90 minutes | Workshop starts at 5pm Vienna Time (11am New York, 8am Los Angeles)

It is not a one-way-lecture, but an interactive live workshop in which the participants have the opportunity
to sing under Roman's guidance.
