I drove out to the exact spot where this bird has been spotted, photographed and seen carrying nesting material in years past.? Saw MIKIs three separate times.? Once there were 2 adults - second time joined by an apparent immature (first year?) bird and lastly saw two soaring way, way, way high up.
Go to Jordon Meadows in Camp Verde and turn on Pheasant Run Circle.? On the right side heading east are huge copses of pines and Cottonwoods.? This is where an adult was photographed years past and seen carrying nesting material. ?
I walked Pheasant Run Circle and saw the birds all three times on this road. Another birder drove right out and acquired the same three birds. ?
There used to be an expert who birded this area regularly and has since moved.? Nobody really goes out there so for all we know, these birds have been nesting there since I saw them in 2017.
