Mantua Power Drive parts

? I have several Mantua power drive motors for my mikados, pacifics, and atlantics. They have different gear boxes, but all gear boxes will hook up to the motor with the plastic tube that you slip over both shafts. Unfortunately, I need a few of these, and of course Mantua is long gone. Does anybody know where I can get these? Thanks??

William, list, Option one (direct replacement) follows. One source of the silicone/plastic tubing is model airplane fuel line. ?I was lucky enough to have a general purpose hobby shop near me that had several diameters I could choose from. A sample of the model airplane fuel line is at the web address below; there are several different sizes out there. You may need to copy and paste the web address below to get it to work. Alternatively, using Google to search for model airplane fuel line brings a lot of results. Option two follows. ? Replacing the motor-to-gearbox connection with universal joints is more complicated, but results in less machine friction. ?You also need to know the size of the shaft on the gearbox and the size of the motor shaft (I learned the two are not necessarily the same on at least two projects). ?Two purveyors of universal joints are Hobbytown of Boston and Northwest Short Line (www.nwsl.com). ? I ordered a bunch of universals from Nick of Hobbytown of Boston in 2020.? Doug Kisala

Hi William,? First thing, measure the shaft diameters on the gearbox and motor. 2.4mm is pretty common.? Next is the gap between the shaft of the gearbox?and the shaft of the motor.? And finally the amount of exposed shaft on the motors and gearboxes.? Functionally the best thing to do is replace them with universal joints.? Hobbytown of Boston is a great source.? If you insist on flexible tubing, the traditional material is RC plane fuel line.? Small diameter silicone and other material tubing can work also,? even thick wall heat shrink.? For the non-shrink tubing you want something that is 5 to 10% smaller than the shafts.? McMaster Carr is one source. If you're interested in better running characteristics,? replace the motor with a Mabuchi SF-266-SA.? They can be purchased on Ebay or found in most folding power mirrors on pickups and SUVs. Nigel?
