? ? ?Nice work! I changed my collecting direction from NYC, B&O and PRR to almost exclusively PRR meaning I have some surplus NYC items. Although I have already parted with my K11 that had a Knapp tender with it, I am certain I still have at least a couple sets of the trucks you initially wanted. Might have a Bowser set but definitely some PSC brass ones. I also have a brass NYC short express tender... the kind found behind K3s, K5s and early Hudson's. Also have four 19000 class cabooses from various manufactures. If you or anyone is interested in any of this stuff, email me directly. Jeff jppellas@... -----Original Message-----

Hello list, A few months ago, I bought a completed Bowser K11 from my local hobby shop.? The version I bought has the cast frame and DC71 motor. I bought it with an Athearn Pacific tender that worked fine on DC, but didn't really resemble any of the tenders used by the New York Central on their West Shore Line commuter service. After reading Rich Stoving's book on New York Central Steam Power in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, I decided this engine will represent one of the Baldwin-built K11c engines (later NYC numbers 4450-4479) and hopefully one of the engines that worked the West Shore Line.? Link below is to a shot of Baldwin-built 4477.?? I had a different DC71 motor with the skew-wound armature and insulated brush holder.? I ended up swapping the brush holder with the kit's DC71 (which had a different worm gear) so I could add a Digitrax DH126 decoder.? I had a Mantua switcher tender on hand that is (to my eyes) reasonably close to the NYC 7500 gallon tenders that the K11c engines were built with.? I wanted to use Bowser's NYC tender trucks, but I could not find any, so I used Bowser's Andrews leaf spring tender trucks.? The engine I bought had the footboard pilot installed, and I swapped it out for the passenger/cow catcher pilot from Bowser (most of the West Shore Line K11 engines had the passenger pilot).? For serious students of the NYC, please forgive the liberties I took to produce an operating model.? I do plan on a few detail additions (like marker lights and a generator) along with painting and decaling the engine t
o represent one that worked to the end of NYC steam in NJ (1952).?? Doug Kisala |

Re: OK Brian ! You are now a Moderator ! Go get em' !
It's been a while, and you might (or might not) have been wondering what was up with the potential group.io transfer. I've been kinda wondering myself, until yesterday I (and probably the other moderators) got a notice that the group.io transfer account had requested to be added to this group. I've made the necessary change to that account, so that YardbirdTrains should begin to get migrated. The next thing we should hear, IIRC, is that we'll each receive invites to the New YardbirdTrains group.io. That should be the indication that the transfer is complete. Brian Pickering |
Re: Lima/RRosi/MRC C-420 traction tires?
Hey Guys, Found a seller on ebay that will cut to width on 9mm diameter tires, of 1.9mm which by my vernier caliper will fit the Lima C-420 wheels perfectly. $1.95 per/pair I'm gonna grab a traction tire for my Rrosi 0-8-0 and three new tires for a Mantua -Tyco C-630. They are all gonna be put into "Composite" train sets and sold locally.? Best, Jeff |

Hi Henry, I am not as experienced as Brian, but you could make me a moderator too and I will try to help. Regards, Walter On Mon, Jul 9, 2018 at 6:55 PM, huligin62@... [yardbirdtrains] <yardbirdtrains@...> wrote:

Decaling Acrylic-Painted Models
Henry, I've used Badger, Tamiya, Testors, Floquil, and Vallejo acrylic paints to finish models.? There may be one or two brands I've forgotten. If you're painting a die cast steam engine model (say, one from this list :)), clean the painted parts thoroughly and let dry.? I use Dawn dishwashing detergent and an old toothbrush to scrub off grease, grime, and fingerprints.? ?? Once you have the model clean and then painted, let it dry/cure at least overnight.? More time does not hurt things. Once the surface has dryed at least overnight, I spray Testors Glosscote over the portions of the model getting decals.? I use spray cans (I don't own an airbrush) and I warm up the Glosscote in a pan of heated (not boiling) water.? Heat the water, take it off the stove (or out of the microwave) and then put the can into the pan/cup for about 5 minutes.? It seems to mix and spray better that way. Let that dry overnight (more time does not hurt things). Decal the model; once you're done, let the model sit overnight.?? The next day, spray another coat of gloss to seal things; this will also hide at least some of the decal film.? If you want a glossy, freshly shopped look, you're done.? I like a flat finish, so I spray the completed model with a coat of Testors Dullcote (letting it sit for about 5 minues in a pan of heated water helps a lot with mixing, even more so than with Glosscote).?? Once you've gotten through this, you can add the clear styrene (or whatever you like to represent glass) and other final touches. Doug Kisala |
Re: Digest Number 3008
Henry,
As a moderator, you will have to take the Oath Pledge on the Yahoo (now called Oath website-- check your Yahoo mailbox for a message about taking the Pledge) before you permanently lose your admin rights. Retaining Admin rights for a list on YG has become a major hurdle. Regards, Walter On Fri, Jun 29, 2018 at 12:26 PM, Henry Hultgren huligin62@... [yardbirdtrains] <yardbirdtrains@...> wrote:
