Re: tyco motorized tender
Dave, ?Thanks for the info. it looks rather toylike except theres nowhere to put a battery. There are several locos with burnt out or no motors in lot,one an o-6-o ?which would likely work but would look funny pulling a long haul tender, not as funny as 1 of the many 0-4-0 saddle tankers in lot though, might be a good candidate to give to my son, says he doesn't like trains but he sure likes to run them, there is also a gallon freezer bag full of kemtron,cal-scale cary, detail associates, psc and who knows what other detail parts in packages I haven't looked at yet, also got the balboa 4-4-0 and I started assembling it ?last night other than drawbar spring and insulating washer, bell, piping to whistle it looks like everythings there being loose parts in a box I am surprised.Bottom cover plate was warped and
driver axles were binding which I corrected by drawfiling cover. ? Alan |

Going back a long, long way in the memory banks here:

When they got the bigger engines, to avoid having to rebuild the table and pit, they had a jack for the rear set(s) of wheels on the tender. You'd never be able to get the lead trucks in the air with the equalized weight they support, again, if I recall. Dave --- In yardbirdtrains@..., <oklacnw@...> wrote:

There are three clues.

1) Tyco. 2) Chatanooga on the shell. 3) Diesel motor block in dummy half trucks. This is about the worst Half Zero locomotive ever made. The other half of the pickup is from the dummy locomotive. Usually we just throw them away, as trying to make something out of them is akin to a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Dave I just added a photo album titled:tyco motorized tender |

tender. No motor of its own. I've never had one but I've wondered about using one as a "booster" behind an underpowered engine. Probably have to be DCC so you could do speed matching. Chuck Peck --- In yardbirdtrains@..., "Alan" <albyrno@...> wrote:

I found this mixed in with the 21 lb. box of trains I got in mail yesterday,Other than it says tyco on the bottom of rear truck I don't know anything about it,if its 12 volts dc there nowhere to put batteries in it,the silver wheel on each truck going to the same rail doesn't look right to me,before I test it I need to know more about it. Any ideas? Alan |

FYI ? There are photos in the Archives at Railpictures.net that show ATSF Texas types with a tender truck jacked up to clear ? PRR's Texas types weren't as big . Fun photo . And yes , those 5000s were huge ! Henry

Mantua Classic Lindbergh Special 4-4-2
I just acquired a Limited Edition Mantua Classic 4-4-2 Atlantic that was still New In the Box. It is over 20 Years Old. When I tried to Run it on a test track, it ran erratic starting and stopping and shorting out.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be causing the problem and any suggestion on how to fix it? Also is there anyway to upgrade this engine to DCC? |

Re: Rivarossi Turntable
I know there was at least one UP turntable that the Big Boys overhung, but I
don't think they needed to lift up their feet. If memory serves me right there was a "block" placed under the lead truck to raise it enough to allow the TT to turn. Might be a photo of this someplace if one wishes to look. Al E. |

开云体育Henry, thanks. ? 开云体育I have a couple of the Black and Decker
1/4" hex drive ones, one is rechargeable and the other used double
D's. With an accessory chuck (There are several makers and
different sizes), these are indispensable. Did not know there was
anything smaller!
If you bite on one, let us know the particulars. Sounds like a worthy addition to the kit. Thanks Tom Knowles NOTE NEW ADDRESS: tomk@...On 3/19/2013 5:10 PM, john wrote: ? |

Re: Rivarossi Turntable
I'd try typing some of those instructions into Google Translate. You might get something usable out of it. Either that or take them to a good Italian restaurant.

Henry, it can accommodate their Y6b. There's a pin on the pilot (on the early versions at least) you pull to lift up the lead truck. I know there was at least one UP turntable that the Big Boys overhung, but I don't think they needed to lift up their feet. Nelson --- In yardbirdtrains@..., "Henry" <long95209@...> wrote:

Rivarossi Turntable
And in another development, came home from the LHS with an ancient surface mount
powered turntable. It was just too neat to pass up, and for the price I can't go to the movies, if you count the popcorn. Anybody have any experience with these? It's going to be a job figuring it out as the instructions are all in Itailian! I think it's telling me I can turn anything up to the size of the 2-8-8-2. Looks like it turns the power on on the stall tracks as it lines up with them. Don't know where I'm going to put it, but what a great excuse for an expanded engine terminal. I may just get that transfer table I always wanted too. JBB |

Power Mini_Screw Driver
This may not be new to you guys, but it is to me. Dropped by the appliance parts place in the big city to pick up some parts for my son. They had a couple of General powered mini screw driver sets on the counter....they use 1/8 drive interchangable bits. Power is provided by two AA batteries. The guy at the counter said they were 20 bucks and change. Didn't buy one, but think I'm going to. If they're any good, they'll be a God send to us guys with aches and pains and paws and fingers not as nimble as they once were.

Re: 4-8-0 valve gear question
It's a Baker. Oops. Don't mind me. I took a look, it just cannot be done. Where the valvegear rods connect to the wheels will not and cannot fit. My only solution is to do some chopping on the cylinders and angle them inwards. Posting pictures of what I got.
