Re: Varney/Bowser Old Lady
Varney itself also used the straight sided cylinders at some point.? An old ad shows then on a 10 wheeler also (with valve gear).

The Varney Old Lady cylinders slanted inward at the top. The Bowser version used cylinders that were basically straight sided.

Re: N1S 2-10-2
Hey Mr. Jeff ! I don't know if the other post got there BUT , the tank dimensions are 3/8'' by 1'' very close [ 6mm.by 24mm.and 18mm. between the hold down straps . Make the ends ''Plain Jane '' , not a fancy beer keg like Cary did ? Look at the Northeast Rails PRR steam site You'll see. I planto add more details to the front , railings ,walkways ?? You can still get MOST of the Modern PRR details , except the big buda ross generator , it's platform? ?? Old Cal Scale # was 2000 something [ good lick ] . Give me a shout any old time , sorry it took too long !!? ?Henry H.?

Varney/Bowser Old Lady
I have an Old Lady by Varney. I know Bowser reworked these kits and changed the cylinders and frames. Does anyone know if the newer style Bowser cylinders will fit the old style Varney frame/boiler/crossheads without major work to the engine? I love the engine but never cared for the slanted cylinders. I think Bowser did a good thing changing them out.? How does the Bowser compare to the original engine as far as running qualities? Thanks, oldline1 |
Re: N1S 2-10-2
Yeah. If you don't mind. That'd be helpful. Did you acquire this as a kit or did you pick up the detail parts separately? Do you happen to have a parts list?

Do you want me to measure the tank ??? ?Henry ? |
Re: N1S 2-10-2
I have the boiler, frame extension, decapod chassis and tender but no air tank or other detail parts. I am sure I will never lay my hands on that original Cary air tank but should be able to scrounge the rest.

I got one of these a while back , detailed nicely . One area gave me fits tho' , the pilot and big air tank . The clearance to the foot boards was way to skimpy . So I played with it for ever until I figured it out !! The pilot screws to the frame , then screws into that big air tank . OK if ANY of these are stripped threads ? You go thru' the frame into a low profile nut to secure the pilot . Then add plastic to the frame to secure the air tank in place . I did that because the frame and the tank were both stripped out ??? Have fun , eh ??? Henry |

? ? I had a spare Yardbird at one point. I'll go down into the vault and see if I can dig up the rods you need.? ? ? By the way, I recently acquired a Bowser A5. At first I thought it was a John English Yardbird because they are so similar. Then I picked up, from Sean, some pewter cast frames that Bowser had made from a JE yardbird when they were developing their A5. I didn't know, until then, that Bowser did base their A5 on the JE model. Yes, Bowser did make many changes and added all those brass details but, if you look at the back end of the JE and the Bowser frames, they are identical. Jeff jppellas@... -----Original Message-----
