Re: Lewis Tender Trucks
Jeff, list, For some reason, I can't get to www.bethelehemcarworks.com right now.?? When you mentioned Lewis trucks, I thought of the Pilcher trucks under many N&W tenders and auxiliary water tenders.? I have an F&C N&W auxiliary water tender awaiting assembly (amongst a million other projects).? ? ? Are the trucks at the link below (Bethelehem Car Works part 1241) what you're looking for??? While they're out of stock at the link below, they might be available direct from Bethlehem Car Works.?? Doug Kisala

Group: I am looking for a set of Lewis trucks. I would like to purchase a set if anyone has them. These are the trucks found on Norfolk and Western Y3 2-8-8-2 tenders and some of N&W' auxiliar water tenders. These can be found on Proto USRA 2-8-8-2 tenders, on recent Bachmann Aux tenders and on current BLI aux tenders. Only place I've found that has them in stock is Greenway...for $18/ truck and they are not processing new orders until April. I've also tried Funaro, which makes a resin version of these trucks, but I'm sure they will be too swamped to reply until some time in the new year.? _ |

Re: Loco derailing - Bachman Spectrum 460
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýUsually pilot trucks have a spring of some sort to help push them down onto the track.? Look at your 4-4-0 to see what the difference might be.? They probably should be similar. Vic Bitleris Raleigh, NC

Greetings and happy holidays to all.
I have a Bachman Spectrum 4-6-0 that runs very well otherwise, but the pilot truck tends to derail on a certain?segment of my handlaid 18" radius track.? All of my other equipment, including a Spectrum 4-4-0, ?runs just fine on this section.? I have re-gauged and re-spiked several times but this engine pilot truck keeps jumping off.
I checked the pilot wheelsets with my NMRA gauge, OK.??
Any suggestions for fixing the problem?? Should I add weight to the pilot truck??
Thanks in advance!

Re: Bowser tender trucks
I'd try very short wheel base Commonwealth 6 wheel trucks. These were used by Norfolk and Western, Union Pacific and others. They appear on many tenders that you could find on the 2ndary market. I believe you can buy them new from Precision Scale.

?I recently built a NOS Bowser Vanderbilt tender. The kit did not include trucks. I cannot figure out what to use for this. The Mantua 3 axle trucks that come with their standard and vandy tender don't work. Too long. Looks like it needs 2 2axle trucks, needing electrical pickup. Any ideas ?? |

Re: Cary Brass Boilers
Cary did make a few of their boilers in brass as well as lead - the PRR I1 and the CNW J4 are two that I have seen.

Group, Here are a couple of pix of some of my Cary projects. First is a group shot showing, front to back, a Cary USRA Heavy 4-8-2 boiler mounted on a Bowser USRA 2-10-2 chassis with a Barney tender behind it. Object is to model a PRR N2sa. Next is a Cary N1s boiler on a Bowser/Penn Line decapod chassis. Barney tender frame that I was going to use behind it. Finally, in back, a Cary M1a 4-8-2 boiler on an older Bowser USRA chassis, BLI cylinder saddle and Penn Line tender. ? ? The second picture is of the 100F85 tender kit I just picked up. I laid out the parts where they seem to belong. You can see the N1s cab details on the left and the thick brass frame piece on the right.

Re: PRR brass tender
That's interesting because, before I received the parts and found the one piece brass frame, I was thinking of using a varney tender frame. I have no idea if the frame piece supplied was part of the original kit or something someone else made to be used with it. These tenders had the Andrews type trucks, I believe.

Nice work on your A3-A5 Locos . Sean had a kit lke that [for the frame] . I was almost going to use a Varney 32' tender for mine ?? If my memory serves ? That tender didn't have Kiesel trucks ??? ? Henry |
PRR brass tender
I recently picked up an interesting kit from eBay. The listing said the kit was made specifically for the "Bowser PRR N1." I assumed they meant the Cary PRR N1 shell that was to be combined with either a Penn Line or Bowser 2-10-0 chassis to make a 2-10-2 locomotive. The kit I just received is for the tender that was unique to the N1: the 100F85. The kit consists of all etched brass parts to build a complete tender body and frame although there is no underside detail and no trucks. Besides the tender kit, there are a some locomotive cab details to be added to the Cary shell. Unfortunately there was no box, no instructions or parts list and no identifying marks on any of the parts (other than 100F85). Does anyone know anything about this kit? Is it a Cary product or something else? I'd never even knew this kit existed before stumbling across it.?
