Don't forget about Thomas models, they made all metal tank cars, I have 2.? I have the highly sought after Roma Wine, six dome, and a Philgas car.? The frames are metal casting as are the domes and ends.? The tank is a rolled piece of sheet metal.? They made
these cars in O scale as well as HO.

Hi Bob, I am not sure, but I don't recall varney making metal tank cars. If they did, finding some would be a big problem. They had plastic body car made from the 1960 on, with metal frames in a large selection of road names, different numbers, and colors.
They changed the line to all plastic parts and kept the nicely done tanks. Athearn along with Champ, Silvine, and maybe some else I can't recall made all metal tank cars. Mantua made them but covered the tank with different decorated embossed paper tank coverings.
Silver streak had a metal frame but nothing else was metal except the dome (wood tank with printed metallic paper covering and cast metal dome).?
