Re: VL Control Surface

There is a new website for the VL70m editor (VL-Wizard):

Re: EL 900 VL and plg100vl in PSR9000Pro

Thanks for you replies and help,? I will try out the 9000pro talking to the EL900 over the weekend and see if it works

Re: EL 900 VL and plg100vl in PSR9000Pro

Edited

Just to clarify, an EL900 VL voice consists of a VA element (which to my knowledge cannot be edited) and Control Changes, RPN's and NRPN's (which can be edited hopefully by the 9000pro's Easy Edit or, if not, an XG editor set up to not send system-exclusive commands).

Re: EL 900 VL and plg100vl in PSR9000Pro

Its interesting that I could possibly use the 9000 to edit the VL voices in the EL900.? I know of the El-Edit but expensive for them and I cannot seem to get any replies from John Beesley so far.

I should have read the 9000pro manual before posting (or was that boasting?) about other PLG hosts. The 900M's EL and XG modes both support control changes 72 and 73 for Release and Attack respectively, but I could not find mention of the controller for Decay (Non-Registered Parameter Number 228 on XG).? The Easy Edit mode of the 9000pro's Custom Voice Creator may be of use to send these on the MIDI channel used by the EL900's VA element - if that works you may have no need to buy a PLG board. If otherwise, there seems to be vast differences between the PLG150VL's single VA element per voice and the EL900's structure of 1 VA, 1 AWM and 4 FM elements per voice.

Re: EL 900 VL and plg100vl in PSR9000Pro

You are correct that you cannot edit the VL on the EL900, this is only possible on the 900M, ( wish I could get hold of the update Kit ) but they can be edited or should I say created on external software hence the question, can the editors work on the installed ViLs/boards.

If all you want is to change XG midifiles to VL-XG, see Mid2VL.java in "VL Control Surface.zip" (this may need changes for PSR panel voices, Bank Select MSB 0 LSB 112-126)?

EL 900 VL and plg100vl in PSR9000Pro

I am repairing a EL900 from a nursing home and I have a PSR9000Pro and thinking of buying a PLG 100VL for it can I use your prog to edit and save the voices? Or can I download it and modify it to work?

Thanks

Re: QY100 with the VL Control Surface

Unfortunately I got rid of my PC with the DS-XG card.? And the PSR-S910's tenor-sax mega-voice has only two velocity-sensitive sections: valve noise and breath noise.?

Re: PSR-S910 with the VL Control Surface

Edited

I have updated VL Control Surface.zip with the new Mid2VL.For now, it converts only XG voices (such as those you would get out of XG-Gold) to VL.

The PSR-S910's DSP1 is almost identical to the VL70m distortion block. The latter gives 3 options - Overdrive, Distortion and 3-band EQ - and

supports insertion control depth only for Aftertouch and Assignable Control 1.

The QY100 is long gone, replaced by the PSR-S910, whose sequencer cannot insert additional system exclusive, and Ableton Live 10 Lite with its army of VST's

I intend to modify Mid2VL to work on another channel (e.g. your PLG-150VL's 3). and when my 4-in 4-out USB MIDI interface ship comes in I can test the result on my MU10 via XG-Gold.

I might also see if I can convert my $108 Novation MIDI controller keyboard to a control surface, it comes with keys, velocity-sensitive pads, and knobs.

?

The VL Control Surface was developed using a Yamaha QY100 XG synth/sequencer/rhythm box.? I programmed the QY100 to accept 3-, 4- and 5-note chords on notes C1-F2 on channel 4.? As well as XG system exclusive, whose parameters were given as words rather than numbers, I could also insert non-XG system exclusive such as VL part data (F0 43 10 4C 09 xx xx nn F7). The QY100 also had an extra effects section with Overdrive, Distortion and Amp Simulator, but I did not try using this as if it were the VL70m distortion block (F0 43 10 4C 03 xx xx nn F7).? The results are evident in vldemo.mid .
