thankyou yes thats exactly what I've been thinking today. 99% of all modern songs are simply repeating patterns that I could - as you say - import into the pattern memories and play the file that way. I'm confident that could drastically reduce the midi file size. it's a headache of a job but might be worth it once done.
I regularly have this issue even without large SMF files.? On the QY 100 you can use Smartmedia card and load direct. Alternatively if you have SMF with a large amount of data and notes, you could extract repeated phrases (see job menu) and copy into up to 8 instruments into patterns and then set up song mode to repeat those patterns in bite sized chunks.
