Dx7 MK ii 13
Hi everyone - happy new year, I recently switched to a DX7 MKII - but I’m finding things to be quite different than on the MKI. I’m wondering if folks here can tell me how to transfer a patch library currently on the machine into a SysEx file on my computer. I’m also wondering if there are useful resources for the MKII, in general, since the support seems much thinner and I’m not finding explanations as easily. Thanks, Geoff

Pitchbend 11
Hi All - I wanted to ask a couple of questions about how pitch bend is implemented in a DX7 (mark 1). I'm controlling it with an external MIDI signal. 1. I believe the range of potential values is 0 to 16382, or 16384. I'm a little unclear about which. It would mean that either 8191 or 8192 is the "center point" (no bend added). Is that all correct? 2. I believe that you can program the DX7 so that the pitch wheel doesn't use the "full excursion", but presumably that doesn't change the range of 0 to 16384, on a patch-by-patch basis. So, in terms of pitch, what is the actual range here? Is it something that can be measured in semitones? 3. It does not seem possible to assign pitchbends to individual notes. I know that the DX7 II has some kind of a pitch reprogramming feature.. but is there any way to do something similar with a DX7 I? Thanks all, Geoff

Microtuning
No, there’s no need to have each key on different channel, besides it’s not possible to achieve. You just select preset microtuning or program your own, and use it by playing on the keyboard or by MIDI control. For some preset temperaments you have to select root key. It’s possible to program temperaments with more than 12 tone in octave, or without octaves in tune. See manual page 40 or more detailed Supplemental Booklets 15 to 19 (which I have scanned and another member of this group Rawl processed few years ago, and they are for free download on the net). And now I have one 6
Hi, I already owned 2-operator FM synth (PSS480), several 4-op FM synths (FB01, V50, Orla DSE24), and a classic DX7 sound 6-op FM synth (TX7). And now I am the really proud owner of an 8-operator FM synth. And no, it's not the FS1R. It's a rare and almost impossible to find FVX-1 rackmodule that now is mine. Does anyone have any idea how many of these were produced and how few still exist on this globe? You probably have never seen one, maybe you have only heard of it. There is some but not much info on the internet here: Yamaha FVX-1 - Specifications, pictures, prices, links, reviews and ratings The Yamaha HX-1 Electone fan site - FVX-1 MATRIXSYNTH: Yamaha FVX-1 MDREliminator MT

Just Unboxed My Old DX7 Mk1 - Battery Still Working plusforgotten Steinberg YAMRAM !
Hi Jay, your battery is on the way out for sure. They read high before they die. Find your rom packs and you’ll be ok to reinstall the patches .. then change the battery. If they don’t work there’s plenty of sysx files on here to get you going again if you have a computer and midi interface. Cheers, Brian.

Just Unboxed My Old DX7 Mk1 - Battery Still Working plus forgotten Steinberg YAMRAM ! 2
Hey guys, Around 30 years ago I bought a Yamaha DX7. It got relegated to a flight case about 20 years ago and I haven't opened the case until today. Also.... I know that "somewhere" in the garage I actually have around 4-5 ROM cartridges in original cases but can't find them for the life of me. I did find one though which was loose though. The keyboard is in immaculate condition which is awesome !! I actually found that I had left a Steinberg YamRAM I cartridge inside the slot of the keyboard when I opened the flight case. The cartridge is an 8 bank x 32 patch cartridge that I bought in the late 80's I think. That is showing as format errors so I suspect that the battery on that one is shot and needs swapping out. I've just ordered a PCB mounted battery for that one as it's a tight fit. I knew that the original battery in the keyboard would be dead and the patches long gone, so I had already ordered the battery and holder ready to do the work. I thought I would power up the keys just to check therewas still life before doing the work and am just speechless at what I found .... All of the patches are still there just as I left them 20 years ago. How the hell does that work ?!?!? I went and ran a battery check and the battery is showing as 3.8 volts. It is only a 3V battery (2032) to start with isn't it? Now I'm torn as to whether I actually should change the battery or leave sleepy dogs lie and not. Has anyone got any suggestions as to why the battery is reading high and the patches still intact when if anything I was expecting the battery to be completely dead. I certainly wasn't expecting it to read higher than the original 3V. There weren't any synths manufactured with a 6V battery were there? Cheers, Jay :)

DX11 factory settings 2
Hi all, I've found previous posts with files containing factory settings for the DX11 performances and internal banks but for whatever reason, I'm unable to download them from the yimg server (hosting the attachments from previous posts) Does anyone here still have this file around and could send it my way? I've got the DX11 outside of its box, changed the battery and all, but the performances memory is all corrupted. (fingers crossed someone still have it...) Thank you! Fran?ois

DX7 EPROMS, BBQ or Vinegar 3
I don't have one in front of me but I am sure one is coming. A good old simple DX7. I see the one time writable TMM24128 is used and I am curious will a 27C128 work as a firmware replacement? Also In the files there is a DX7 firmware bin file but no version to be found. Does anyone know what the last version was for a stock DX7? and where can it be had. Thanks All !

Can’t load patches 33-63
Hi guys Have this dx7 11fd ( it has grey matter E installed on it) for about a year now battery got dead so have to reinstall some patches but no original discs though.have some files that I downloaded .Problem is Trying to load them with DX Manager Thru midi interface . I load files 1 - 32 in bank 1 . Fine so when I choose edit 32 and choose bank 33 - 64 and load it , all it does is erase the previously loaded files in the 1 - 32 slot and loads them there instead. I’ve tried it several times and can’t figure out what I am doing wrong . Any help please ?

Reface DX Ctrlr panel - possible bug report (F.A.O Martin Tarenskeen) 2
Hi Martin, I've been having a look at your Yamaha Reface DX Ctrlr panel, which looks very useful, but I seem to have found some mistakes. I haven't looked at every control, but some of the ones I did look at seemed to have mistakes in their sysex formulae. I'm not at all familiar with editing Ctrlr panels, so perhaps I'm misunderstanding something, but this is how it looks to me. If I'm right, maybe you noticed already and have been working on a newer version? I downloaded the most recent version available on your site, which is 20180815 In panel mode (clicking the top left corner of your panel to see Panel properties), I see : panelversionName 20180815 These are the sysex formulae, for the controls I've looked at. I used the "copy to clipboard" icon, next to midiMessageSysexFormula, to copy each one as text/ Op1 LFO PMD (on/off) f0 43 10 7f 1c 05 31 00 0f LS f7 Op2 LFO PMD (on/off) f0 43 10 7f 1c 05 31 01 0f LS f7 * Op3 LFO PMD (on/off) f0 43 10 7f 1c 05 31 00 02 LS f7 ?? typo? The Op3 LFO PMD is a different problem, and looks like a typo. Let me know if I'm on the right track. If so, I'll check the rest of the controls and see if I notice anything similar. On an unrelated note, I found the readability of some of the control names was improved if I changed the dash (hyphen) between the two words to a space. I also found it a bit more readable for me (cheap montor, ageing eyes) if I made all the control labels bold (clicking the B next to componentLabelFont). I can alter these things for myself, on my own copy, of course. I just thought I'd mention it. Also, I found it a bit of a challenge to work out where to download the panel. Your home page links to ctrlr.org, rather than to the page for it there, and their site is not very easy to navigate. Is the url for your panel on their site not guaranteed to stay the same, perhaps? On that page of the ctrlr.org website, I still had a bit of trouble working out what to actually download, perhaps just because I'm new to using Ctrlr. There was a link back to a page on your own site, which I found after a few wrong turns. So, maybe a link from your DX project page to your own page to download it would be good. Currently, http://refacedx.martintarenskeen.nl/ only seems to link to ctrlr.org, which has a page for your panel here: http://ctrlr.org/69236/ (but I found it hard to see where to actually get the panel), which links back to http://soundmondo.martintarenskeen.nl/ - which actually had the download link for the panel. I'd suggest putting that last link, on your http://refacedx.martintarenskeen.nl DX project page, as well as the link to Ctrlr.org to get the software to use it with. - Andy

Dead or alive DX7IIFD 13
Hi all, Im new to the group and this is my 1st post. I purchased a DX7IIFD and when I received it I was told the battery had been changed but the synth would not complete the boot sequence. All I get is 88 and then it freezes up with a Red letter P. On the display there was just faded gray squares no text. I verified battery and supply and all caps, even the Quartz crystal. All was good. I then erased the Eprom and wrote the 1.9 bin file to the eprom. Then rebooted. Now on the right of the Display I get "attery" I gather that is Battery and on the far left side I get " ~ ! " Yes the battery is good. Also all buttons are still frozen. Any Ideas? Best regards to all and thanks for the add. Garry
