DX7s mainboard (DM) reborn attempt
Dear Martin Thanks for the link. I found that already, but unfortunately i do not have any cartridge. (at the moment, the cartridge connector is not fitted in the PCB, as can be seen on pictures) Thanks! On Sunday, August 7, 2016 5:17 PM, "Martin Tarenskeen m.tarenskeen@... [YamahaDX]" wrote:

开云体育Is normal, you must reprogram the performances by hand, included the master tune otherwise you may have a very low pitch...? Inviato dagli anelli di saturno On 07 Aug 2016, at 20:24, Martin Tarenskeen m.tarenskeen@... [YamahaDX] <YamahaDX@...> wrote:

Thank You Martin & Carlo So i hope, there is someone in the group who has the DX7s and the original DX7s ROM cartridge, and will be so kind to dump the voice & performance data to sysex file :) I hope :) Thank You in advance! ? Sorry for the delay Csaba, had a really tough time at work this week. A zip has been uploaded with the 64 voices and 32 performances to the files area. Thanks to Daniel for the guidance how to do it (and you can blame him if I made a mistake :-P).
Seriously though, if anything is wrong, let me know and I'll fix. |
Thanks for the file - it was very helpful for understanding how the real DX7s data format looks. Previous versions of Voice data for this instrument which could be found on the internet were not complete. Performances are OK. Voices - it looks like the instruments has sent automatically not only Voice data but as well belonging Fractional Scaling bank. Most of these settings are empty, zeroed, no data, only some of them have data (I supposed those which have the same number as the voice to which it belongs). Interesting. And because the second Fractional Scaling bank has different contents I'd suppose it's OK because different sounds use them, and in different setting. Anyway - it would be interesting to know - just for checking purposes - which Voices show "f" character, that means they use Fractional Scaling. Owner's Manual contains probably some mistakes, I suppose one of them is on the page 58 - that Fractional Scaling is called by selecting of the Performance with the same location number. That must be wrong, FS belongs to the voice editing parameters, so it is recalled together with voice. Proof for this is also SysEx format as we can see clearly now - FS data were sent from the instruments together with voice data. But it can be saved only to FS formatted bank on RAM4/5 cartridge. Dear Pnetops
Thank You so much for your work! I loaded the sysex files, and the performances appeared, the CS1, CS2 sliders now functioning, everything is ok! :) How did you get the dumps? You sended request sysex-es to the instrument via MIDI, or trigger manually the dump with the instrument's buttons? Thanks again! |

Just for the documentary :) I tried all of the eight, manually triggered dump from instruments, and get the following sized sysex dumps: "system" (8973S): 103 bytes "perf(edit)" (8973PE): 69 bytes "32 perf" (8973PM): 1650 bytes (same size and contents as Pnetops) "voice(edit)" (FKSYE ): 730 bytes "32 voice": 5239 bytes (while dump sended, the display shows: INSERT CARTRIDGE, and the FS data is missed in the dump, so it is not 21404 bytes long -as Pnetops dump, but the voice part is the same) "MT (edit)" (MCRYE ): 274 bytes "MT (user)" (MCRYM0): 548 bytes "MT (cart)": not sended anything, just "INSERT CARTRIDGE" message ?Csabi Sent from Yahoo Mail. Dear Daniel, the following voices and performances show the 'f' (missing FS data) character (with Pnetops dumps loaded): A remark about DX7II patches/performances that make use of Fractional Scaling: When no cartridge with the FS data is available, such voices can become useless. That's the reason DXconvert switches Scaling Mode AMEM/ACED parameters from "fractional" to "normal" when converting DX7II sysex data. -- MT |
I'm using this thread because I don't see much about the DX7S here or anywhere. I just revived one that had a blown power supply. I tried to fix it, but the transformer was bad and other issues too. I did locate a replacement for a reasonable price and recapped that one (these old Yamaha power supplies look so bad now .. .SPX90's dying all over the place).
Anyway, I updated the OS to 1.3 and replaced the battery. I also bought a ROM cartridge ($$$) and see that it has been dumped into the files section by clem in 2016. I couldn't find the Sys Ex data for it though.? Just the ROM binary dump. I have never used one of these and it's quite complex compared to the original DX7. But if anyone wants any Sys Ex dumps or whatever I can try that. The ROM cart has a really oddball 128k x 8 mask ROM that would have been a chore to dump. So, clem did a lot of work to get that data. |
It wasn't that work I just solderd some pin headers on the joints of the ROM and put the thing into the EPROMMER to read it. If I understand the MIDI SYSEX format of the DX7II right, you can receive fractional scaling or microtuning banks directly from a cartridge and can send it. But this makes only sense with RAM5 or RAM6. It would be interesting to have a little archive of those "complete" Cartridges because most of the stuff you can find in the internet are only the compatible SYSEX banks for the old DX7. |
开云体育There are two Yahoo groups for YamahaDX. There is this one and the DX_FIles
group, since file space is limited for one group. I added a DX7S SysEx folder on
the DX_Files group and uploaded 4 sysex files. I believe I tested them when I
had a DX7S. Right now I only have a DX7-IIFD.

Thanks. OK, I will try this weekend and see if I can get everything that's in the cartridge. Did yours contain a 27512 (64k x 8) or the larger 1M (128k x 8) mask rom? I noticed you saved it as a 64k file so we can assume that the other half is the mask rom is empty I guess. Curious. I looked at the PCB and it's the same one as here, just with different jumpersin place.

Hi, I have uploaded some files to the "DX7s" folder in this group. The IC was a "Mitsubishi M5M23C100-520P" - CMOS MROM 1 MBIT (128K x 8) and there are saved three voice and performance banks (1,2,4) and one fractional scaling bank (3). Bank 1 and 4 are identical, instead bank one performances use cartridge voices and bank four
performances use the internal voices. Here you will find more information and a list of sounds: Best |
