Re: Yamaha original service manuals on ebay

Yes I want to get a paper version in order to pout online a better version than the ones that are already there (better resolution, OCR and no page distorsion). I'll wait for a EU auction I think.

Yamaha original service manuals on ebay

Hi,

The price is ok but infortunately the shipping cost to EU are a no-go. Too bad I just got myself a good scanner! For the ones interested there's some service manual for sale on ebay right now:

Even the TX816 one!

Re: DX7II D - strange problems with fractional scaling

i tested with sound diver, the sysex command for master tune is "F0 43 10 04 40 dd F7" (dd=data). When set on the DX7II itself, master tuning works and the DX is sending the correct data - when sending back the same data, the DX7 ignores all values and sets master tune to -64.
Seems to be a bug
I didn't test the master tune on V.1.3, but as Grant reported, master tune via sysex is working with this firmware.

How are negative numbers coded in DX7II sysex? I have seen different methods to handle negative and positive values in SysEx messages, and more than once I have seen editor software sending the wrong values to achieve this. Is it possible to set mastertuning on the DX7II itself, without using external software? In that case the external software might be the problem, not the DX7II or the ROM version. Just guessing.

Re: DX7II D - strange problems with fractional scaling

hi - finally i found the time to burn the EPROM and to test firmware 1.8 - with the same results as on 1.9 :-(
the fractional offset bug is still present, and master tuning via sysex is stuck at -64.
at the moment so far version 1.3 seems to be the least buggy version :-) - regarding just these two issues.
i wonder if there were versions before 1.3 ?

In my opinion the files section is best for files that we don't want to
disappear and that are important to the YamahaDX forum comminity. I
suggest that if you create 100 different versions of a recording, you keep
the latest version(s) and delete the oldest version(s). At the end the
recording can stay there if you think it is really a good showcase of what
a DX synth can do.

Personally I don't mind to find dead links to non-existing YouTube videos
in old forum messages and e-mails. Discussions in forums and mailing
lists come and go.

I have to say, Andy and the other great people in here actually inspired
me to record the last set, it is nice that SOMEONE is listening!
And I have to say: Even if I still don't think the YamahaDX forum's Files
section is the best place to store complete tracks of recorded music, your
enthusiasm ís inspiring. It reminds us that, no matter how much we all
love our Yamaha DX synths, it means nothing without playing and creating
and recording music with them!

Hi Dave and all,

Wow Dave I LOVE YOU! Your group here has helped me SO IMMENSELY! I got a patch editor and many links to patches which I'm still not through reviewing, and well being a sort of discussion forum founder and also Yahoo groups creator I really really appreciate what you've done here! Woohoo! U R N Angel!!!

I DID ask before, because the last thing I want to do is put things somewhere improperly or impolitely or well, take up too much space!?

I agree it is a drag when a YouTube link is dead, and I figured I saw the 2GB free below and if I made a mess someone would let me know..

I think I'm getting somewhere with the patch selections: Plucked Guitar for bass and probably a nice organ for right hand, or the Strings but I have to edit them and get rid of the vibrato. - Later I'll set their BREATH CONTROLLER to do vibrato or something, and well, having someone to share this development with is so great I can't thank you all enough!

Re: New file uploaded to YamahaDX

Hi All,

I'm one of the DX admins and the person that originally created the
DXfiles group.

For those who are new or those that don't remember Yahoo Groups' file area
size was quite restrictive and we were running out of file space for the
DX group so the new group was created solely to expand the file area.

Since then Yahoo has increased the file area size to 2GB so both the DX
and DXfile groups have a lot more free space. BTW if you scroll down to
the bottom of the file area it will show you how much space is free.

I agree that other sites dedicated to audio is a better fit for
recordings. However the problem that I have seen many times is when
someone links photos/recordings etc. to their account on another site and
when I follow that link it no longer exists usually because the person's
account no longer exists.

One of the main values of this group is the tremendous amount of
information available to new members. It has been running for a long time
now and people do move on. It would be a shame to have links to resources
on other sites that no longer exist.

My opinion would be to keep the files here for now and watch the space. We
can always move them if we start to run out of space again.

Another alternative would be to create a Soundcloud or similar account for
the group and have the admins manage it. I don't think that any of us are
looking for more work so I would rather not go this way unless space
becomes an issue.

So basically wait and see.

Any other thoughts?

Dave

Re: New file uploaded to YamahaDX

I am apt to agree Martin - though does anyone know the filespace size in the files section? Mp3s tend to be large files.

I can understand recordings made of tape backups (sysx) etc and maybe demos of characteristics- but full trax? Better hosted on sites built for them? IMHO

Re: DX-100 patch editor / librarian for Mac os 10.7 or 10.9?

Hi Andy et all,

My Firefox wasn't working, anyway after lifetimes of restarting EVERYTHING I think I can attach files, I'm in Safari now, fingers crossed!?

I have been making jokes about how MODES and MOODS seem related. I think I have chops with sustained tones creating dissonances because I lived through hard times, used to play such moody Organ when I lived on Oregon street, Organ street? He he.. now I can laugh about it but I think my sustain pedal on the organ is not TOO overdone, I just want some unique touch you know?

Thanks for bearing with me. Sorry for the wrong notes! I hope this is appropriate to share this way. Thanks again for any comments or suggestions!

Teo

Re: DX-100 patch editor / librarian for Mac os 10.7 or 10.9?

Hi Helfried, MT and Andy!

I have edited patches in the past (on my cute little DX-100) I even made my own Wah-wah! I think I can improve the punch of some of the orchestra / strings patches I have and have found. The strangest thing is how 1 patch can be good for something else!

I was looking for a reasonable bass in the internal patches, the plucked guitar is really great!

Again I hope this is appropriate to share this IN-PROCESS unfinished work, I'm currently playing the 2 side by side, sustain pedal on the floor. I eventually will have them both strapped on as in the picture, sustain pedal under my arm. For now, you'll see, I'm getting quite the effect with the sustain on 1 patch, staccato bass patch in the other hand.

This is a morph from my old daze wild latin/jazz/flamenco/blues/space music I used to do, now I'm applying weirdness but tastefully (SURE!)

This is AmadeusProII - Apple Audio Units - Matrix Reverb with soooo many settings! I put as you'll see 30& on the large hall and 1 time 40%, a main reason is this way it's not ONLY left track - right track, it mixes them somewhat. I personally prefer dry too, thanks for the comments there too!

I REEEEEALLY appreciate your agreeing about the Harpsichord2 is best for right hand but I'll stick with the built in for the time being, so many to test! For the exact moment.. late last night I decided to try the basses and found also a Zither makes a great one! Not really natural sounding, but bouncy highs and deep lows! Forgive the mistakes, and enjoy!

Teo

I can't attach, and I can't see if this message has been sent :(
