Re: Rust
开云体育My two cents : rust is not a protection
for steel / iron (it's only the case for aluminium and copper)
Steel rust is not protective as it is
permeable (oxyde on copper and aluminium is not permeable, that's
why it protects them)
So water passes through rust and attack
deeper metal, which rusts in turn, etc etc (look at the Titanic if
you don't believe me ?)
In other terms, it is always better to
put a protection layer on steel. One of the best I know to stop
corrosion is Rustol Owatrol

开云体育Just my @0.02USD ...I would be inclined to leave well enough alone.? Given the age of the synth (~40 years), I would be amazed if it *didn't* have a small amount of rust somewhere.? And what I see in your photo is definitely a *small* amount of rust.? I don't know how the plastic is attached, but it wouldn't surprise me if adhesive was used.? Yamaha build quality in the 1980s was excellent, so I would expect them to use plenty of adhesive.? 40-year-old adhesive is very hard to remove:? solvents often have little or no effect, and scraping/grinding it off rarely results in a clean surface.? So, any repainting you do a) may look as bad or worse than your photo; and b) may actually protect the metal less than the original finish. Rust is iron/steel's way of preventing further corrosion.? A small amount of it, while not perfect, is far from a terrible thing. Regards, -BW Bruce Wahler bw@... 978.597.7008 ? On 12/8/2023 9:55 AM, googdyamaha

Re: cartridge format
开云体育Your ROM card seems to be damaged or the ROM cardreader in your DX7 is defect.I had the latter w/ a KORG M1R(ex) and resoldering contacts of the cardreader unit inside the machine solved the problem. Anyway,- you?ll find sysex data of Yamaha DX7 factory ROM cardridges all over the place in the web. So,- no loss when the cardridge is dead. Throw it in the bin when it is and use BOME SendSX (for Windows) to load and dump single patches or patchbanks in .sys and.mid format. It works like a charme w/ all my vintage MIDI modules and synths,- DX7mkII, TX816, TG77 and the other brands. Am 27.11.2023 um 11:44 schrieb

Re: cartridge format
This is master data cartridge rom #1, Yes I have learned from the manual that this cartridge cannot be formatted. ? My main problem which I didn't bring up before is that the dx7 can't read this cartridge and when it does it prompts a format conflict. That's why I tried replacing the battery in the dx7, but it didn't work, I also tried Diagnostic Test (Function+16+32) several times, but it didn't solve anything. ? I see everyone has 10 tests in Diagnostic Test and I only have 8. My dx7 version is 1.8. |
Re: cartridge format
I see now that it is Mk1, so it is not RAM4. What exactly is written on the other side of the box and on upper part?

Re: cartridge format
Which cartridge is it? This doesn’t look like RAM4, it is ROM, so of course it can’t be formatted.

And how could you replace battery? There’s no battery in ROM cartridge as you can see. Or do you mean battery in DX7? It was not the best idea to connect the cartridge without the box. Maybe you have connected it opposite side, so you could destroy it. On Nov 26, 2023, at 18:58, googdyamaha <valerizimlichxxc21@...> wrote: |

开云体育Other options:Amazon Newark/Farnell FWIW, this fuse is one of the most common values in vintage gear.

In my schematics and service manual:

F1 - European model T 0.5 A/250 V, USA, Canadian, Japanese 0.5 A (without type, but probably F = Fast) F2 - 2 A (without type, probably F) F3, F4 - 0.75 A (without type, probably F) Parts list shows also these fuses without details where they should be: 0.7 A for Japanese model, and T 250 mA for German model with Serial Numbers less than 2478, T 500 mA for German model with Serial Numbers more than 3311… There are also mentioned fuses T 800 mA and T 2A. It seems to me strange that for different primary voltage there’s the same fuse value. It should be different for 100/120 or 220/240 Volt. Re: Glass fuse
开云体育Hello Valeri
The brand of the fuse does not matter. Any fuse with the same values and measures will do it. And btw: the DX7 does not use a 5A fuse. The service manual says: 0.5A for the fuse on the primary side of the transformer on the secondary side of the transformer: 0.75A for the two 15V lines 2A for the 5V line.
