Re: Digest Number 4273

On Sun, 2 Jun 2019, Steve Scott stevescott517@... [YamahaDX] wrote: ?Are you sure? From what I understand from the manual (I don't own a TX802) the "Note Shift" performance parameter is meant to shift a voice in semitones ( range between -24 and +24 semitones ). The "Detune" parameter has a range of -7 to +7 ( or in MIDI SysEx 0 to 14, with center=7 ). The exact amount of detuning per step is not specified but is certainly much less than one semitone. You can try it and hear for yourself. But if the performance detune parameter isn't good enough for the result you are trying to get, if you are searching for Really Fat: First create, or choose an existing, single voice with a saw-like sound. Then copy that voice to 7 other single voice memory locations. To keep things organized cal them, say, SAW-1 SAW-2 ... SAW-8. Then in voice edit mode make small changes in each of the 8 copies. Look at the used Algorithm. Then you can finetune the operators that function as carriers, or finetune the operators that function as modulators to change the harmonic content (careful!). Depending on the algorithm fatter sounding detuning already might be possible inside only one single voice. Other possible variations: small changes in envelope rates and levels. Then in performance edit assign the 8 patches to 8 instruments. You can still experiment with performance instrument detune parameter. It's a bit of work, but you won't get fatter than this. If you want to have such vintage FM fatness with full polyphony: find yourself a fully loaded TX816 :-) -- MT |
Re: Digest Number 4273
I am trying to create a "super saw" sound like the Virus by adding multiple (8) detuned voices to a performance. There is a detune in performance but it only goes up to 12. I assume semitones. Certainly not giving me the beating I am looking for. Re charles: Boom operator? On Sat, Jun 1, 2019, 4:56 AM <YamahaDX@...> wrote:

Question: A Hybrid Cartridge?
An idea hit me, and I'm wondering if it's possible.
The idea is a combination RAM/ROM cartridge -- the basic patches, performances, and other data is burned into the ROM so it's always there on hand. The RAM side is where the cartridge patches and anything else that's not a part of the basic ROM group, like other patches or performances or tunings, lives, along with the patches that program change 64-127 access. This would provide a backup of the basic configuration of the instrument, along with something more flexible for specific situations or needs. I'd be interested in one compatible with a DX7II or TX802, though there could well also be value for ones designed for the earlier cartridge format. Is this possible? Would it take new fabrication, or would it be possible to use existing cartridges to make this work? Sent from my HAL 9000 in transit to Jupiter |
Yamaha synths to a good home...
narfman96@yahoo.com
If anyone lives near upstate New York I need to part with many of the items from my synth collection. I have TX16W samplers, TX81Z, TX7, TG33, DX7, DX7IIFD, SY85, SY77, SY22, SY55, and other items for Yamaha gear. I also have other synths from other manufacturers. Some are rack and some are keyboard versions. If anyone is interested please contact me directly. My job keeps me very busy and lately I have not been able to use any of my gear. I also do not have a lot of time for shipping items but I suppose arrangements could be made. I am not looking to get rich off any of this. I would rather help someone out. The same as the work I have done here in the group over the years.? Narfman96? ? at? yahoo |

Re: DX7s mainboard (DM) reborn attempt
Hi, I have uploaded some files to the "DX7s" folder in this group. The IC was a "Mitsubishi M5M23C100-520P" - CMOS MROM 1 MBIT (128K x 8) and there are saved three voice and performance banks (1,2,4) and one fractional scaling bank (3). Bank 1 and 4 are identical, instead bank one performances use cartridge voices and bank four
performances use the internal voices. Here you will find more information and a list of sounds: Best |

Re: DX7s mainboard (DM) reborn attempt
Thanks. OK, I will try this weekend and see if I can get everything that's in the cartridge. Did yours contain a 27512 (64k x 8) or the larger 1M (128k x 8) mask rom? I noticed you saved it as a 64k file so we can assume that the other half is the mask rom is empty I guess. Curious. I looked at the PCB and it's the same one as here, just with different jumpersin place.

Re: DX7s mainboard (DM) reborn attempt
开云体育There are two Yahoo groups for YamahaDX. There is this one and the DX_FIles
group, since file space is limited for one group. I added a DX7S SysEx folder on
the DX_Files group and uploaded 4 sysex files. I believe I tested them when I
had a DX7S. Right now I only have a DX7-IIFD.

attempt ?

It wasn't that work I just solderd some pin headers on the joints of the
ROM and put the thing into the EPROMMER to read it.
If I understand the MIDI SYSEX format of the DX7II right, you can receive
fractional scaling or microtuning banks directly from a cartridge and can send
it. But this makes only sense with RAM5 or RAM6.
It would be interesting to have a little archive of those "complete"
Cartridges because most of the stuff you can find in the internet are only the
compatible SYSEX banks for the old DX7.
