But I got this module w/ the intent of learning how to become
reasonably competent at FM programming...that's my self-imposed
requirement before buying a synth w/ more serious FM capability (such
as an FS1R).

You might find the url below of some interest. If nothing else
it might be a good starting point to find other information on fm systhesis.
I once had a TX81Z midied to a DX7. Together, I got some pretty good sounds.
I just recently aquired a DX7II FD and found I had forgotten most of what I
knew about FM. Programed and processed well FM can produce some very
satisfying sounds. "imho", especially for the buck.
If I run across any other info I will let you know. Good luck in your quest
of FM knowledge.

Marc

Glenn-
I also am trying to find more info on programming. I have a DX-27 and a MAC. If you find the title of the book I would be very interested.

Good online sites for 4-op FM Programming?

Greetings; Since last week I've been the delighted new owner of a
Yammy TX81Z, and I've been spending hours every nite sifting through
the mountains of patch bank material available online, much of it
quite good and some of it excellent.

But I got this module w/ the intent of learning how to become
reasonably competent at FM programming...that's my self-imposed
requirement before buying a synth w/ more serious FM capability (such
as an FS1R).

I've managed to find dribs and drabs on info on the net about FM
Programming, but no mastersource that can leave me w/ a clearer
understanding...can any one point me in the right direction?

Eventually I'll track down what appears to be the DX/TX Bible, the
text by Chowning and Bristol (I think I recall the names correctly,
even if I can't remember the exact title of the book). With the
former author being basically the inventor of FM synthesis, and the
book apparently taking a highly practical approach (as opposed to
just theoretical), it sounds like a must-read for FM
enthusiasts...but I figure the more you know before dipping into it,
the more you'll get out of the text.

Regards
Glenn

How to save patches and performances of a DX7 IID ?

How could i save the patches and also the performances of a Yamaha DX7
IID ?

DX7 Piano sounds

Hey all!

I hate to sound whiney, as I love the DX, but is it capable of
realistic piano sounds? If so, can someone point me to one? It's
hard when your setup consists of a DX7, Hammond and Farfisa organs!

Ta,
Jon

I've got some on Atari formatted floppies... with a "loader" that sends
them to your DX7II via the atari midi port. I would love to have copies
of
these to send to everyone (happy happy joy joy) but I no longer have an
atari... Does anyone out there have an atari and a DX7II?

Steve I have heard someone is selling an atari ST w/ cubase for $65
on harmony central's classifieds. if you or anyone else on the list is
interested, this is the link below.

atari ...

I know it's a long way to go for just some voices but if you're looking for a good sequencer as well someone is ditching an atari ST w/ cubase for $65 on harmony central's classifieds ... maybe you could talk him down a bit.

good luck!

DX7 / DX7II Patch editor

I've just found a DX7II editor, the page is here:

Does anyone know of any other DX7 / DX7II editors ?
And are the DX7 and DX7II editors the same and the patches fully interchange-able?

Re: TX81Z - Patch Editor?

Hi,
I've just joined this group - as I'm considering adding a TX81Z to my current gear, to give me a slightly wider range of sounds.
However, I've heard that editing is a nightmare using the front panel - and hence some sort of PC based patch editor is essential.
I've searched around the net - and most patch editors I can find are written for either Amiga or MAC platforms. Could someone point me in the direction of an (ideally free!) patch editor for windoze - which is capable of loading any patches I'm likes to find on the net?
I've heard the TX81Z is a great little box - but that you really have to delve into editing of sounds to get the best out of it.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated :)
Many Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve I might have screwed up the recent email/attachment.
Try searching Google under 'Freeware TX81z - editors/librarians' some of these are Windows
based.
Cheers - Jack
