Re: Yamaha DX-1 Servicing

I had a battery problem with my DX-7II.?? This was about 10 years ago. Everytime I turned it on I would have to reset everything and reload patches.

Finally got the nerve to open it up and replace the original battery.

The original battery had tabs on it and was soldered to the board. While removing the battery I damaged a tab and left a hole in the motherboard.

oops...? I then decided to get a battery holder. I also decided to wire the battery holder out of the way (you have to remove another circuit board to get to where the battery is mounted).

I also mounted the battery holder on it's own little board, attached to a mounting screw. If/when the battery goes dead, it's a simple pop out and in with a new battery. Batteries and holders are cheap and the fix is simple if you're elegant with a soldering iron.
