I suspected as much, though I didn't know about the hardware limitations for the cartridge port.
So that's sounding like a resounding no to MIDI bank change.

Yes, not only would it require a firmware change for the MIDI commands, but the signals aren't present on the cartridge connector either.
I totally agree that 128 patches is more than enough for most people. 32 is definitely cramped and anything above 128 becomes time-consuming to manage (loading, saving, formatting ... all very slow). 128 also gets you in the sweet spot for access via MIDI Patch Change (you can access them all with no fuss).
