extending tuner control cables
开云体育To remote my FC-40 I use Ethernet cables with DIN to RJ adapters. I bought the male and female DIN connectors with short pigtails from W4RT and the Ethernet cables and connectors from Home Depot. The RJ connectors come in a small plastic box for surface mounting on a wall, like the old wired phone jacks. I just ran the DIN connector wires to the screw terminals in the RJ connector boxes. ? I have used two 100’ cables with a double female RJ connector between them and it worked great at 200’ total length. Just watch out for all the swapping of wires in Ethernet cables – it’s been too long since I built mine and I don’t remember if the wires cross. ? ? 73, ? Charles WA5VHU / YI9VHU ? ? I want to purchase a fc40 but need to locate it 30-40 feet away from the shack outside. What are you guys using to extend the 15 meter long cables? |

Thanks for posting this idea. That is excellent. I've ordered those pigtails from W4RT and will try something like your idea. I had ordered some 8 pin mini DIN connectors from Cablestogo but I'm not sure I can solder wires on those tiny pins. Those pigtails will solve that problem.

I'm working on a portable 43' vertical wire antenna for Field Day. I have a fiberglass mast from Max Gain Systems with a 43' wire running to the top of it. I have the FC-40 at the base with the antenna wire on the antenna post and some radials connected to the ground post. It is tuning everything from 10 meters down to 160 but I need a longer control cable since the radio will probably be about 100 feet from the antenna. I'm using the FT-450 with it for Field Day but have also tried my FT-857D. --- In YaesuTuner@..., "Charles Penry" <charles@...> wrote:

And with the spare witrs you can parallel the power wires for lower loss

(depends if needed if you have a long run For me I used just din connectors and I made my own long cable Have an fc1000 Dg9bfc Sigi Ps I use it also with a 1:4 balun on the outside to tune ladderline fed antennas -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- |
I was able to extend my cables with the W4RT pigtails and it worked great. I'm using them at home now on a permanent 43' vertical installation.
One other source I found for the mini DIN connectors and cables is L-COM at www.l-com.com. They have some extension cables in various lengths that I've used with good success with the FC-40. These cables could also be cut in two and spliced into longer cable runs as another option. -- Ron Parker, KE5RON |
Another option is to purchase two cables with a mini 8 DIN connector terminated with an RJ-45 connector. Just run some straight through CAT 5 cable between them to extend to the desired distance. They are available from Pacific Cable . They will also build custom extension cables to your length.
