Sorry about that as I totally got confused. I think the link was generally for anyone? Just provides a simple switching solution.

? I think I need to go back and re’read this thread from the beginning and see what the original issue was. I apologise for any confusion caused.

?Spence,

Not sure if your last post was for me or Greg.

?I can get it to work no problems using the DB9 pins for PTT. I was hoping not to have to build a serial cable for rig and splice into the cable. I was hoping I could get it to work just using the audio line to activate PTT on the Easy Digi board to pass the audio back into radio.
?I just bought me a 15ft DB9 serial cable cut in the middle made the connection for PTT and spliced the 3 wires for CAT back together inside the project box for Null modem pinout to the radio.

No worries Spence. Maybe this will help the next new owner of 847.

Tim,

I took up your request to test the keying my radio using a SignaLink and VOX.? My Audio is fed from the SignaLink to the radio using the SLCAB847 cable, plugged into the Data In/Out jack located under the HF SO239 connector.

I wasn't able to complete the test VOX keying with SignaLink audio because the FT-847 does it does not support VOX.? I searched the manual and the internet before coming to that conclusion.? Using WSJT-X I tested the remaining two PTT options, DTR & RTS, and my radio would not transmit with either of those selected.? The only way that I can make my radio transmit is by using CAT PTT.

I also tested a couple of older AFSK programs with my SignaLink and CAT control.? Testing with FLDigi, my radio would transmit as long as I select FLRig as the rig control option, and FLRig is configured for the FT-847 with the COM port & baud rate set.? I also tested DigiPan and the radio will transmit if I select the COM port that is connected to the radio.? It's interesting to note that DigiPan does not have a setting for the baud rate, but it is set in my computer to match the rate that my FT-847 is configured for.

Correct; the 847 doesn't do VOX, but I believe the SignaLink does.? That was the only way it made sense to me that things were working.? The SignaLink was keying the rig via its own internal VOX, and the CAT, while also keying the rig, was overruled by the rig seeing PTT on the Data port so getting the audio signal from there.?

If setting WSJT-x to VOX still has the 847 going into transmit, it must be due to the SignaLink providing that function.? From what you write, making only the change to the WSJT-x software for VOX did nothing?? THAT I can't explain.? If the only PTT being recognized by the 847 was coming from CAT, and the audio only coming in from the Data port, that shouldn't have worked unless the signal was really really loud.? What was it set to?

John,

There some magic inside that SL to close the circuit to allow the audio to pass to Tx on the rig. I just cannot figure out what is happening to make it work with the Easy Digi board and the pg 16 drawing from the 847 manual.

Well the SignaLink USB working great on the 847. 30w out got Japan on my G5RV.
