FT-847 roofing filter mod

Hi all,
Anyone know if the board is still available for the mod adding the roofing filter to this radio? I’ve checked on the InRad site and the filter’s still there but not the board...
The experimenters boards all show as out of stock too. If anyone has a board sitting around..?
Cheers,
Andy M0DEL?

Hi Brian,
I don't work 70MHz (yet!) but my ft847 stopped working on 7MHz. No TX
or RX. A bit of digging later and I traced it to D3053 in the bpf.
Replaced the pair in bpf 4 and it’s working a treat again. Many more
years of life in the old box... Good luck with yours!

Thanks

I'll have look at the 21MHz equivalent BPF7. I'm surprised a fault there stopped the TX from working. I ordered schotty equivalents to do the improvement mod, but I've not got round to it.

I had it apart yesterday to fit a battery holder for the CMOS memory.

Hi everyone,

I have owned my FT847 for a very long time, maybe 20 years. It is a UK
version that has usually worked on 70Mhz, but has stopped putting any
power out recently. The radio goes into TX on 4m, but does not put any
power out (measured on a Bird meter so there may be mW.). The radio has
the L5006 mod from? worked fine for
10 years or more.

The radio works fine on 50MHz so I know the PA stages are not kaput. I
have done a factory reset several times and do not know what to look at
next. Can anyone give me any clues?

Thanks

I assume it works on Rx.

Someone posted a decent set of schematics recently. On page 6/7 you can see a section where the HF path splits to 3 different filters . One section is 54 to 76MHz. See if the signal is getting through that. Check the two steering diodes 3015 and 3031 and if the control voltage is functioning at the junction of R3041 and R3046.

I've studied the circuits at great length as I'm trying to find out why mine isn't working on 21MHz ( works everywhere else) . I think mine is that the relevant band pass filter in the PA isn't switching in as it doesn't work on RX either. Sometime I'll get round to debugging it.

Good luck

Re: Looking for Replacement Sub Tune Encoder

You can repair the encoder: open up the? four retaining lugs on the encoder? which will allow you inside, you can then clean and re-tension the
small pick up fingers and reassemble and refit to board.
i have done that and it worked out very well.
I have a pair of the encoder lying here but i suppose the shipping would be high from Sweden to you.
Yaesu UK have them in stock but again, shipping would be expensive.

I believe you buy them on EBay. ?I bought a sub tune encoder for my 847 there a year ago....... ?

?

Early model 847’s did not have bidirectional CAT control by design from yaesu and therefore could not communicate with CAT software.? YAESU realized this issue and later model 847’s were provided with bidirectional CAT and yaesu offered a mod upgrade for free (at the time).? If you have bidirectional CAT, all you need for connectivity is a null modem serial cable from your computer to the radio.? You will need a usb to serial adapter if your computer does not have native serial ports.? When buying this adapter make sure that it is not one of the cheap Chinese made which will not work.? Once you have all this, any CAT control software will allow you to connect with the radio and control the radio.

?

Hope this helps.

Subject: [YaesuFT847] CAT CONTROL Software???

Who is using CAT CONTROL and what is the best software for controlling the FT-847? I am about to delve into CAT CONTROL of my FT-847...I have had this rig for many years but never have pursued SOFTWARE to control it.
Thus, I am wide open to what the best way to go is. HELP appreciated. Rather than just use a standard Null? SERIAL Cable, I did order the RT Systems cable.

Re: CAT CONTROL Software???

I use the RT Systems programming cable (Windows 10) which also works for CAT control using SatPC32. You have to set Menu #37 to 9600 bps for SatPC32 to work. You have to reset Menu #37 to 19200bps ( I think it was) for the programming software to work. For rotor control (Az only) I use PST Rotator on an old XP computer.

I use my FT-847 for satellite exclusively.? I use CAT control for automatic doppler shift frequency control.? I use PSTRotator software for that and Omni-Rig software as well.

Hal I am talking about a straight through to null adapter.? It plugs into the radio's com port and the standard serial cable plugs into it?

There is a mod somewhere
I saw that you can change the comm port but the $3.00 adapter is a cheaper easier option.

Good morning
? ? ? ? ? ?I found out why I couldn’t get commander or hrd to work on my 847. I purchased an early model and it didn’t allow two way cat control. They apparently did offer a firmware upgrade that I didn’t find out about until now.

I have reached out to Yaesu to see if I can do the firmware myself or if they still do it.
