Early Yaesu 9-pin connector wiring used two different common lines – so they are not identical but work on most functions, interchangeably. ? The two different 8-pin microphone designs show up among several different ones in my collection of Yaesu radios and their respective OEM microphones. For instance, my original version MD-1 is not wired from the factory quite like my MD-100 – and they are not 100% interchangeable. ? 73, Bill, W9MXQ ? ?

I do not believe it is a mic issue. I checked the wiring and it is all intact. According to the schematic, shorting pin 4 (FAST) on the mic jack should activate that function. It does not.
I also looked on the back of the front panel and the wiring seems to be in place as well.

I have seen (2) Yaesu microphones not wired correctly for the radios they were attached to. One was simple miswire, the other was not soldered, it had heat-shrink applied to one of the wires insulating it.
Should be easy enough to pull the body of the plug apart to inspect the wiring.

Some of the satellites have SSB uplink on UHF. Whether I use them or not at least I know the radio is capable.

I've returned the tx according to the service manual. RF meter on radio now showing 50w.
I think the external meter is not accurate on UHF. Anyway I am very happy with the results.

To close the loop on this repair, I ended up removing Q4001 on the VHF/UHF amp board, I removed the 4 connecting pins, and then under jewelers glasses, touched up the 4 pads on the module. I think there was a short on pin 3, so someone may have been in there before me. After reinstalling, I had output! A quick tune up and the radio is now putting out 50W as specified.

Aloes check around the balanced modulator, of the SSB signal PINs 2&5 are interchangeable as it’s is a gilbert cell, Yaesu used it the other way around! ? Check the filter pins are not corroded ?

This is the 2nd TX mixer VCO PLL used for SSB and AM, this mixes with the 1st IF SSB to form the 2nd TX IF frequency, before it is mixed up to final frequency by the UHF TX VCO. ? T1008 has been known to drift, sometime tweaked by mistake ! then it goes out of lock ? ? Check TP 1003 is correct. ?

Audio tracing will not work as the pre amp uses current mirrors, so very little to see, as AM works, the 2nd TX mixer is locked, so check around the SSB filters with a scope for the SSB signal. ? It would not hurt to do the following ?

Hi As I no longer have an FT847 if anyone gets the chance, can they measure what they get on the following: ? MD2003 Pin3 MD2004 Pin 3, base of Q2014, collector of Q2014, ?Base of Q 2022, Collector Q2022 and Q2031 on UHF TX and RX ?
