Re: VR6501

The pins are fine and I also did a continuity test, 100%.

The radio flickers when turning it on with FC-20 connected. Sometimes the radio doesn't even come on.

Once you disconnect the FC-20, everything is fine.

I looked at the schematic for both, and the radio pin 6 is tuner sense and on the tuner it's ground with pin 3.

Thank you

Re: VR6501

I would like to thank Nils Ostman for posting the info on the AF/RF pot on Ebay.
I was able to order one and have just finished replacing the bent one for the new one.?
I was also able to dedust the front of the radio, actually the whole radio.
The pot works perfectly.
Now, can anyone help me with FC-20 problem I have. When connected and then powering up the radio it either shuts off immediately or just doesn't come on.
Please
Again thank you for the pot info.

Excellent information, Nils. It's very helpful.

No, I'm not sure that Q3004 is good. I only know that the radio is completely deaf when the "RF AMP" button is pushed on 70 CM.?

Tack!

Re: UHF Preamp not working

That transistor "IMD3 T108" is a strange fellow. You can find info by Google it. Yaesu part # is G3070053. I'm sure they have it in stock. Can also be found elseware used by Panasonic and others.
Are you sure that the FET, 2SK2685ZT Q3004, isn't the problem? That is the UHF amp. Yaesu part # G3826857. Quite common easy to find.

UHF Preamp not working

Edited

I have an FT-847 that I use almost exclusively for satellite work. With RS-44 now activated I'm using mode J (2m up, 70cm down) a lot and I've noticed that when I press the "RF AMP" button the transceiver goes deaf.

I've confirmed that it's not the switch as the internal preamp works fine when receiving on 2m. I've checked menu option 30 and it's set to "INT" so that's not the problem.

So, does anyone have any ideas?

If I'm reading the schematic correctly the RF AMP switch enables Q3009 for 70cm. On the diagram it's marked as IMD3(D3). Does anyone have another part number that it cross-references to?

VR6501

Does anyone have the Yaesu and/or manufacturer’s part number for VR6501? ?This is the dual 10k pot used to control AF and RF. My shaft got bent due to the sellers horrible packing. I scoured all the different forms of the service manual and I could not find a comprehensive parts list like what is found on newer rigs. ?I saw the earlier post about Yaesu-UK, but due to shipping delays from UK, I want to try to get the part in the US.?

Hi Karl,
Signalink is good.? I've been using one on both my 847 and also on my FT-2000D. They are very simple to use and fast to get up and going.

MiniPro SC by G4ZLP. Cable is available for both the Packet and HF Data ports. I've used one with both an 847 and 817, works very well.

I'm restoring an old FT-847 after a visit from "Mr. Lightning". Yaesu UK seems to have a lot of parts in stock. I managed to get "impossible" parts trough them.
You need VR6502 from Panel Unit? Send them a mail.

*WTB* Yaesu FT 847 parts needed

David A. Holt / KI6JPE

I inherited an FT 847 from my late Brother's estate. The town building inspector shipped me some items from his estate to me in California, one of which was my brothers' FT 847.

Unfortunately he had no knowledge of proper packaging, and in transit something happened to it on it's first transfer in Springfield MA, and knobs on the front were bent/broken.

I am in need of this control:

SQL and keyer speed

I contacted Yaesu and was able to obtain the Mic/RF PWR control so I can replace the existing one, and with very careful manipulation fixed the DSP control.

Does anyone have an old non-working 847 (burned up finals) with good front controls that you'd be willing to part with as a parts radio? Yaesu tells me some of these controls are no longer available through them.

Please help.

Subject: [YaesuFT847] My internal keyer isn't working

?

Hi guys,
I'm restoring an old FT-847 damaged by lightning a lot of years ago and had been lying in the schack collecting dust, according to the previous owner.
After replacing the main CPU on the AF/CNTRL board the radio woke up from it's Cinderella sleep and the most things are ok now except the internal keyer.
I have also replaced the one-chip microprocessor MB8854-1244M which in fact is the keyer.
It is impossible to key the transmitter in CW-mode, nothing happens when I try.
I have run out of ideas and if someone has any suggestions please share them with me.
