disable ptt function on rear DATA jack in the presence of isolation transformers?
Afternoon all ,?
Checking my understanding of a perceived challenge here with you all: before buying the bits and prototyping a cable...? It seems that plugging the 847's rear 3.5mm data jack into anything with audio isolation transformers at the far end (thereby effectively dc grounding the tip of the 3.5mm plug) forces the rig into constant TX irrespective of any remote PTT settings (correct?)? And therefore, interfaces like the SCU-17 which feature such isolation, require something like a 10nF blocking cap (depicted as C-BLOCK --||-- below) like (hope this scales) : RIG END? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? PC INTERFACE END ? ? ? ? ? ?|----------------------------------------| TIP |RING|EARTH|------------------|EARTH|RING|TIP| ?|----------------------||-----------------------------| ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?C-BLOCK inline to stop this constant PTT (correct?)? is there any other way (I cannot see one in the menu?) to disable that data port PTT without rig surgery ? many thanks and 73 de 'CQU |
Re: TX power meter in HF AFSK data mode mode ??
thanks Greg.
I figured that would be the case as effectively its still SSB just via a different pathway, but always better to confirm with others. audio is DEFINITELY getting to the rear of the 847 but for some reason not getting into the TX stage? At least I now know that I should expect to see "something" and can start looking inside? 73 de CQU |

开云体育If it's actually going into transmit, I'd check your audio path.? The meter should deflect at least a little, showing the transmit power.Greg? KO6TH Rob MW0CQU via groups.io wrote:

TX power meter in HF AFSK data mode mode ??
Hi All,
A dumb question perhaps on the surface, but when transmitting AFSK data via the rear port of the 847 And not using CAT mode for PTT (as I gather CAT mode expects mic audio through the mic socket not? the rear port) should I actually be seeing RF power going out on the wattmeter ? or just the? [USB] [CAT] and [DATA] indicators please ? set up is? Xubuntu desktop---scu17---FT847 {Hamlib} Tuner unplugged (tick in the box)? * CAT function is working tuning the rig fine * SCU-17 getting audio to the linux PC * SCU-17 is pushing audio from linux to the 847 (verified with a double headphone adapter, and headphones . Good levels (can nearly blow my ears off)? PC to radio. * PTT is keying, [USB][DATA] indicators turns on, but nothing deflecting the wattmeter even with the SCU-16 volume level at MAX , and no replies to my CQ's ;-)? have I missed a setting perhaps?, a rig fault ? or some other overlooked factor ?? Many thanks in advance de CQU |
Re: FT847 Data Problem
Yes I can hear FT8 tones through the speaker if I turn volume up.

Yes use CAT and the PTT test function in WSJT worked (red) and the radio Tx's (ssb-data) My TX works its the lack of ANY rx that's the issue. As I said in my mail, I have swapped the FT5000 onto the port I use on the interface for VHF and all works fine, so my assumption is the PC > Interface >Ft5000 is fine on either port of the interface, so the problem is in the lead (which I have replaced with no luck) or the data jack on the FT847, There has been no hardware changes since day 1 set up of FT8 on 2m and all worked until recently. I cant help thinking something has gone wrong on the data jack port, it all seems to point to that, anyone had similar problem? Stumped! 73 Pete G4RRM -----Original Message-----

FT847 Data Problem
开云体育Hi All ? Thanks for adding me to the group. I have a problem with my FT847 when trying to run FT8 on VHF. ? I have been using the FT847 to run 2m FT8 with a G4ZLP interface into the Data jack on the rear of the radio with no issues for a few years. Recently, the waterfall would occasionally go blank, but then start working again. A few weeks ago it stopped receiving and hasn’t worked since. I suspected the cable, and have replaced with a new one from G4ZLP today. I still cant get any RX on the waterfall. ? I looked in the settings of WSJT and see that Transmit Audio Source is set to Front/Mic but is greyed out and unable to change to Rear/Data which I would have expected the setting to be. I have not changed this setting, and as above, I have used this Cable/rear panel configuration since going on 2m FT8. ? Is it possible that the rear data jack has gone faulty? Should the Transmit Audio Source be set REAR / DATA and if so how when greyed out? ? I have put a wire into the HF Ant port in an attempt to see if it will RX anything, I am HEARING 20m FT8 but not a jot on the waterfall. I have also run HF ?from my FT5000 on the VHF port of the interface and that decodes so I cant see it being the interface at fault. ? Running WSJT-X v2.7.1 rc7 ? Any help is appreciated ? ? 73 Pete G4RRM ? |
Help with Yaesu FT-847 please
Hi all, I have a strange problem with an FT-847 and hopefully someone has seen this before and can help:? I have an FT-847 that works fine EXCEPT for an issue with turning it on or off. I replaced the power switch but the issue I have has nothing to do with that which I was hoping it did. When I connect my power supply to the radio and turn on the power supply without turning on the radio? I can hear what sounds like a relay click in the radio but nothing happens, just the click. Then when I push in the power button to turn the radio ON nothing happens for maybe5-10 seconds and then the radio comes on and works. If I push the power switch to turn the radio OFF then the display still stays lit up, display looks fine but nothing works, no buttons, no changing of frequency with the VFO, it's in a catatonic state. If I push the power switch back in again to turn the radio ON (even though it's all lit up)? then a few seconds later sound and all controls etc come back to life. If I leave the radio on when it's working and turn off the power supply of course the radio shuts off and when I turn the power supply back on when the power button on the radio is in the ON position it starts right away and performs fine.
?Any help appreciated. Thanks, Adam Adam Farber W4AJF Cooper City, FL |

NICE FT-847 FOR SALE
Butch McCollough
I've decided to part with my 847. Ser. # 3G760154. It is in great condition. Everything works as new. Looks nearly new also. I have the original manual, power cable and hand mic. Also included is the elusive odd 5 pin din HF amp keying cable and a very nice vinyl, embroidered cover. I do not have the original boxes so I'd prefer a local pick up or a meet and greet at a reasonable and agreed upon distance.? Priced for a quick sale at $575. Shipping would be extra and I'd have to round up some boxes.? PayPal is preferred.? Email offers off the reflector pls.??
?
Thanks all & 73,

Re: COLLINS FILTER YF-115S-02
The filter for the 847 is not common. On Thu, 10 Oct 2024, 20:50 Butch McCollough via , <k3afr=[email protected]> wrote: Thank you Richard. I was aware of the FT-1000 MP using the same filters. |
Re: COLLINS FILTER YF-115S-02
Hi Butch, i'm not sure if you know but the filters in an FT1000MP Mark V are also compatible in the FT847.? This might expand your ability to locate one.? I searched a long time for the 500 Hz CW filter without luck until I learned about the cross-compatibility.? I was searching "FT847 CW filter" (and variations of) and was finding nothing or listings with rediculous greedBay prices.? Skeptical, I did a lot of image searches for the CW filters for both radios and compared them and they looked the same.? So I took a chance and started searching "FT1000MP CW filter" and in short order I was able to find one being parted out by an FT1000MP owner.? I too am looking for the SSB filter.? A couple of times I almost convinced FT1000MP owners to part with their 2.4 kHz SSB filter but failed.? Someday!? :-)

This was the site where I first discovered the cross compatibility.? Scroll down about half way for the SSB one. |
NR Failure in SSB/CW
Hello? 847 owners.
?
I have some troubles with my 847. I experience a low volume in rx SSB, that I fix with a capacitor bypass , but remain a fault in DSP-NR only? in SSB and CW (FM/AM works well).
When the NR switch is depressed the signal disappear in the speaker (Only in the AF stage - Smeter ok),
?
I supposed a fault in IC BU4066 SSB/CW/AM/FM switch but, after the replacement of? IC Q1087?the NR fault persist.
?
Following the schematic another IC ( Q1115)? act like switch between input/output of dsp, but before desoldering (SMD is not easy to desolder), I would like to know if? somebody have fixed this
?
kind of fault.
?
Service manual supplied from Yaesu is very poor over this.
?
Many thanks for Your support over this topic.
