I found the solution:
the internal speaker is "a kind of" defect.
By pluging in an external speaker, no distortions are there.

Yes, I was looking at one of those Kuhne electronic QH40A Cyrstal heaters something like you have. I was worried about the trimmer also being a problem,? so thought kill 2 birds with one stone

Thanks, that did the trick changed L 26-28 and H 33-36. Rig if on freq adjusted it on UHF with my IFR-1200S so within about 10hz. The variable not the best. Think I will put in a TCXO next.

I had the same problem. I had to go into the service menu and adjust the DISC-L and DISC-H settings. Look in the files section.

Hello, I just got my first FT-847 a week ago. I notice the discriminator always pulls to the left even with no signal. I did adjust the ref osc as it was off freq a bit.

A quick update as a closure to the no SSB problem. After I got help by a friend in tracing the audio signal, we had to replace the NJM2902 op-amps. I went ahead and replace both chips.
