Re: FT847 Memory manager

FYI… some additional info…These are some of my old notes I had for my FT-847… you may find useful.

?

The Upgrade for older version is no longer available

?

The original design for the FT-847 did not include two-way CAT control operations for frequency and mode. You could use your PC to give commands to the radio, but the radio could not report back any frequency or mode information to the PC. Many, including QST, complained about this shortfall, and the company modified the firmware in the radio to enable two-way CAT control operations for frequency and mode. Starting with serial number 8G05xxxx, two-way CAT control is standard.

?

In a real credit to Yaesu, it offered to upgrade any earlier model radios to the two-way CAT control, so many of the earlier models have two-way CAT control. If you're buying a used FT-847, ask if it has been upgraded.

The CAT control for the FT-847 does not convey the final digit (i.e., the ones digit) under any circumstances, so no external software can ever resolve any frequency better than 10 Hz. The FT-847 itself resolves to 1 Hz.

USB CAT Cable for Yaesu FT-847 and VR-5000 Radios

Top of Form

This cable is designed specifically for quick and easy CAT control of the Yaesu FT-847 and VR-5000 radios. An external power supply is not required. Simply hook it up to USB port. The power supply is done over the USB interface, following the USB 2.0 specs. This programming lead is not a straight forward cable, there is an internal converter circuit board mounted in the USB plug.
?
The cable communicates directly with a PC through the now popular and standard USB interface. It emulates a Serial Port but that port communicates with a radio at TTL voltage levels. A Serial Port connection is not needed since the cable emulates one for you. The cable is compatible with all versions of Windows? that support USB operation. This only includes Windows? 98SE, ME, W2K, XP, Vista or higher.
?
Please click
to download necessary USB drivers. As usual a virtual Serial Port is created, so that any Windows? based rig control software that is compatible with your computer and radio may be used. This zipped file is completed with full driver installation instructions.

Hello Franco

?

I can answer your question about the CAT.? I bought an early serial number 847 and when the radio debuted, it did not even have two way frequency and mode CAT, no CAT at all.? For some reason, Yaesu chose not to include any CAT at all.? Following an outcry, YAESU decided to include two way frequency and mode only in the CAT.? This was provided as a free firmware update.? I think they could not go any further with a firmware only change.? You also still have to choose between CAT and the ATAS antenna, cannot run both together.? Pity really because the radio is a great radio? otherwise.

?

I have the original manual if you are interested.

Thanks Ruben for the info....

If you see on the list, it is not possible to set the channel number and save or download the data contained in the radio. So at least it seems from the commands available and declared in the manual that they are not there.
The problem is that you cannot set the number of memories, through the normal CAT only set the frequencies.

The CAT of the FT847 is really very limited and also very poorly explained on the manual.

Since I would like to manage everything through external memory banks with CAT software,
self-built as I already do for other things between transceiver and shack management like my FT3000d BARalso to have the 7 smeter bar simultaneously visible and easily adjust the CONT and NOTCH options "difficult, complicated and not very usable" otherwise through the menu.),

to better manage the limits of the FT847 SATELLITE 12 x memories and more such as the variation of the NR (which is not it is described as a CAT command, SAT TAG...), I think that the only possibility is to use the cmd and the dial of the CLONE emulated system:

Which in the manual does not report absolutely anything as a definition if not a setting in the menu which, however, does not describes the Up/Dw protocol.

It would seem that through software therefore another FT847 must be simulated and dialogue via the CLONE RADIO options (PAG 92>)

I tried to ask YAESU if there is better documentation. Unfortunately I have not found anything else.

Re: FT847 Memory manager

HI ALL
Thanks reply but probably the complete commands are not specified in my manual, especially those of the SAT memories which it seems that the ADMS847 manages.

So either there are more commands than in my manual (even those found on the net) are not specified, or the ADMS847 even he cannot manage the 12 SAT memories.

Anyone already use the ADMS847 and could confirm?

So I look for all the CAT commands and make a special program.

Joe, VA3JLF:?
microham microkeyer to the 847?it does not manage the memories and SAT MEMORIES of the FT847.

Thank youMX + HNY

Re: FT847 Memory manager

Hi Franco

If you are looking to connect a microham microkeyer to the 847, I have a DB39 cable for the FT847 that I am willing to sell, as?I am not using my 847 at the moment. The microkeyer is a very good addon to the 847, particularly since the radio does not have USB connectivity. You can check out the microkeyer at www.microham.com.

Contact me off list at joe at laferla dot ca.

Just checked VE3NO and don’t recognize the name.? I only moved to Ontario in 2008 from the NWT.? I used to have my 847 connected to a microkeyer 2 for the digital modes.? A lot easier and Better(?) than making my own interfaces which I did before I got the mk2.

Re: Coax 144Mh 12V ?

Looking at the circuit diagram available here? ? ?

?

Check voltage at J4003 pin 5. This feeds in to Q4011, that then turns on Q4010, which goes via L4030 to antenna socket. I would guess L4030 would act like a fuse, suggest you try volts each side of that as first step.

Coax 144Mh 12V ?

Hi all,
I do not have 12V voltage measured at the output of the 144 Mhz socket behind the ft-847.
Menu # 29 is activated on "Ant".
The same measurement on 430 Mhz with menu # 30 on "Ant" gives 12V.
It seems that a transistor does not work anymore.
An idea to look for?
