I am having the exact same problem. Packet works fine on FT-7900 vhf. Put the same cable into Packet Port on 847, keys up fine, tx fine, signal but no audio heard on another receiver. My understanding is that the Packet Port is for vhf/uhf packet which is what I want, and that the data in/out port is for HF. So you are not alone John.
