FT980 RESTORATION
Hello, I am trying to restore an old ft980 that has not led a good life, with many problems, I bought a used vfo board, since yours was very bad, I already have the 30 mhz with a good signal, the 60 mhz are also present, although with less signal, but I can't see the 90 MHz clearly. although the ft980 already receives, but the operation of the vfo is strange, when turning the jumps on the dial they go well, but in reality it varies every 1 khz, I did a reset without success, apart from that I am about 200 khz above the frequency shown , all very strange.

Re: Frequence steps
Hello, I have the same problem, on the vfo I can see how I go up and down in frequency, but the real change is every khz, I have measured the impulses in (P07 FROM PIN 1 TO PIN8) with an oscilloscope, and I can see the impulses, increasingly wider as I go up from pin to pin 8 (P06 FROM PIN 9 TO PIN 17) on pin 17 I can still see from time to time how the impulse rises. Luckily I have 2 vfo boards, but both have the same symptom, it is difficult to have the same failure on 2 different boards. any ideas?

ft980 restoration
Hello, I am trying to restore an ft980 that has had very bad treatment, I have managed to get it back, although the performance is still not the maximum, the problem I have now is with the tuning steps, when turning the vfo, the dial and subdial moves correctly, but in reality it varies the frequency in steps of 1 khz, it is also shifted 200khz, for example, receiving at 7074, the dial reads 7274khz, I have 2 vfo units and with both the equipment works the same, it would be strange if the 2 have the same problem. any ideas?

980 AGC fault.
Whilst receiving a strong signal I turned off the AGC. ( STUPID ME ) turning it back on seems to have overloaded the amplifier.
With the AGC off it will work as normal backing the RF gain off for strong signals. With the AGC on the Audio is very thin and hissy and hardly any output at max volume. Observing the S meter it looks to be working normally and a fast and slow AGC can be observed on the S meter indicating the the diode detector is operational. Just low Audio and hissy with AGC engaged. I'm hoping it just might be a 2SC1815Y? on the AGC bit of the i.f. board. I was just wondering if anyone has come across anything similar. Cheers de GW7VFJ. |
Re: Looking for FT-980
开云体育If I were to sell mine (and I don’t intend to) I would not take less than $400 even though it’s 35 plus years old and I know needs some new capacitors and a bit of adjustment. It has never failed on me except for flaky vox. ?On Dec 26, 2023, at 2:37?PM, Roger Hickerson N0ICT <roger.hickerson@...> wrote:

Before you attempt to use external supplies you should measure the voltages of the internal supplies. On Nov 26, 2023, at 7:38?AM, freilichmst via groups.io <freilichmst@...> wrote:

As Wald posted....
--Just to eliminate the cockpit errors... you are in HAM mode, right?? Not GEN??? ?
You probably do not realize how many times I tried to call someone while in GEN mode...?
So please confirm and we will move forward.

Re: Anyone seen fans like mine?
Peter, I did see another 980 with the second fan fitted and that ran from ACC1, is the original fan 13v, maybe as they run continuously from ACC1 that was the intention, never had the lid off busy with other stuff....i'll have a peep on Ebay, cheers

Re: Anyone seen fans like mine?
Hi Paul. Well actually the second fan on mine is powered from a length of flex and an independent mains plug! Not sure if you could parallel up the original connection to the existing fan to run the second one. (too much current?) Can't understand why yours is connected to the ACC1.

Incidentally I am selling another one of my 980's (with SSB fault) on ebay if you're interested! Peter G0LQU Paul M0FOX wrote: I'd like to connect the fans internally rather than via ACC1 is yours similar, cheers |

Is the radio connected to a dummy load or suitable HF antenna? Power it on, chose a ham band and post some photos of the front panel so we can see the frequency and positions of all the knobs etc -- M?FOX | Chesterfield UK | IO93HE | Icom IC-7800 | WAB SK46 |
