Yes, I have already read on this topic. An
interface for RS232 binary with +12 and -12 V is missing. I am
thinking of incorporating the MAX232 that internally has the generation of the
negative source from the positive one.
?Thanks for these arguments.
Hi Jose,
I can’t see how your circuit can work. Looking at the RS-232 side pin 2 (RWD). Where is the RS-232 side – 12 VDC source for logic One? Where is the RS-232 side + 12 VDC source for logic Zero?
?
Look at the FIF-232 diagram. The power supply outputs +12 VDC and – 12 VDC. The actual RS-232 specification lists voltages between -5 and -15 for the negative and +5 and +15 for the positive.

Hi Dave, Like you I have two FT-980's. I had forgotten about the FT newsletter also covering the FT-980. I opened up my CDROM FT Newsletter and started looking at it again. It brings back fond memories of waiting for the FT newsletter and the Yellow Sheets every month. You can read about what I was doing back then on page 8327. For some reason page 8313 is missing from my pdf copy.
Are your FT-980 pages in pdf format? If so please upload them to the Files section as we can use all the tips we can get.
