Restart on UHF PTT
I have 2 FT-60's. One works fine, one shuts down and restarts when I transmit on UHF at high power. Only on high power; does not do this on Low or ExLow power. Switched out identical antennas between the radios. Same issue. Switched out batteries. Same issue on the "restart" radio. Fully capable batteries on each, showing 8.0 and 8.1 V on startup. (I know a weak battery show the same result.) Can anyone think of a reason for failure on high power on UHF (same all across the band)? VHF works fine across the band on all power settings. Suspecting something inside and not the hand holding the radio....Thx, 73, Bob

The one with the UHF problem may be drawing excessive current at high power. Does the LCD display blink out when you key up? Many newer radios monitor for low battery voltage and shut down until the voltage comes back up. On November 24, 2020 at 11:29 AM, "ab6sy via groups.io" <ab6sy@...> wrote:

The light plug will put out more amperage.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent by....Oh look!! Pretty lights!! On Nov 24, 2020, at 09:22, Chuck Moore via groups.io <wd4hxg@...> wrote:

When I worked for a small company repairing test equipment for the telephone industry we got into the habit of automatically replacing batteries because we found out the hard way that the batteries may have plenty of voltage but not the current capacity. That sounds like your problem. 73, John N4SME

If you have not tried a Full Reset, perhaps the problem radio's microprocessor?has become corrupted somehow.? Seems to happen to my radios from time to time. Page 64 of the manual spells out the simple procedure.? Absent?that, probably time to consult with Yaesu Tech Support. 73 MW / N4MEW On Tue, Nov 24, 2020 at 11:29 AM ab6sy via <ab6sy=[email protected]> wrote: I have 2 FT-60's. I have exactly the same problem, on UHF only (even though radio shows 8.4V after charging). Connected the FT-60's battery contacts (on the radio) to an external DC PS and it worked fine on UHF.
Bought a new original FNB-83 battery, charged it 10 hrs (8.6V after) and installed it last night, radio's been working fine since. Hope this helps... 73, Ramon VE7RVS |
