Opening up the FT 60/MARS Modificatoin
I don't believe the FT 60 is Narrowband capable.?
Opening up the frequency section would not give you much access to MARS or Public Safety in the USA as both services have converted to this mode. Additionally most Urban public safety agencies are using Trunking systems which the FT60 won't do. Many have moved to 700 and 800 Mhz.
Even our Rural fire departments have converted to Narrowband on VHF. You can still listen to Marine VHF if you are near the water.

Jardy, Part 90 is not good for part 95 service! So owning a part 90 approved radio is still illegal for GMRS and MURS! As mentioned earlier there radios that are part 95 approved which can be used by amateurs. Rudi wa2nub

开云体育We weren’t talking about part 95 (GMRS, FRS, MURS, CB), only public safety and commercial. I do agree neither ham radios or public safety radios can be used on Part 95. Because Part 95 radios are not programmable, those radios cannot be used on ham or public safety, even during emergencies. I am not aware of any Part 95 radios that can be used for ham. Public safety, yes.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent by....Oh look!! Pretty lights!! On Jan 13, 2021, at 08:15, Rudi via groups.io <wa2nub@...> wrote:

During an emergency, ANY radio can be used for communications.

I believe that usage during an emergency is restricted: only during
emergencies when an imminent danger to a human life. It is not legal to use ANY radio in an emergency unless danger to human life. Quote from Part 97: §97.403 Safety of life and protection of property. No provision of these rules prevents the use by an amateur station of any means of radiocommunication at its disposal to provide essential communication needs in connection with the immediate safety of human life and immediate protection of property when normal communication systems are not available. Yes, you are correct. I should have been more specific when speaking about emergencies.
