Barrery Suggestions for FT60r
After many years the FNB83 replacement I got from W&W Manufacturing has failed.
In looking on their website I cannot find a 2200mAh battery like the bad one. The one now listed is 1800mAh. Any suggestions of a source for higher than OEM capacity (1400mAh). Prefer fedback from actual purchasers. Thanks Richard |
Rechargeables in the AA Battery tray! MW / N4MEW On Sun, Apr 16, 2023, 4:12 PM Richard via <disposable100=[email protected]> wrote: After many years the FNB83 replacement I got from W&W Manufacturing has failed. |
I have been using 2500mAH AA cells in that FBA-25 tray for many years. 2500mAH is almost twice the capacity of the stock 1400mAH pack.
And I essentially quadruple my battery life: I improve my antenna to either a Smiley 270 or the Diamond SRH-320a, and turn my TX power DOWN to 2W. If one is not making it FM voice on 2m/440 with one of those antennas, odds are they won't be at 4-5W. SO, that again doubles battery longevity. BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE! Want to increase battery life EVEN MORE? Use an audio accessory - an earpiece of a mini-boom-mic setup. What is the first thing you will do with the volume control if you're wearing an earpiece? That's right: TURN IT DOWN. And what eats up batteries? Keying the mic to transmit, and LOUD audio. Smiley SMA Male:? Diamond SHR-320A? -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com PS The Smiley actually out-performs the Diamond - and the Smiley is $22 LESS than the Diamond. |
I recently modified a ‘dead’ battery case to hold a dual 18650 cell holder by cutting a hole in the back. I included a BMS module, bought off EBay, which fits in the ‘groove’ between the cells.?

Good evening I? agree, When mine died after 9 or 10 10m years I went with option 1. 73 Frank KB3PQT

Cliff, Excellent suggestions you make! Thanks for sharing. ?For the same reasons you gave, I use a non-telescoping Diamond SRH-77CA and a monaural wired Audio Technica ear piece plugged into my Yaesu speaker mike as my standard rig in a chest harness.? With this setup, I set transmit power to low for short distance simplex or mid- (2 Watts) to hit most repeaters within 15 mile (as long as I avoid body shielding the antenna). This about doubles my operating time on a battery in a 20/80 transmit/receive situation. If someone else around me wants to hear my radio, I just pull the earpiece plug out of the speaker mike until they have heard enough, then plug the earpiece back in. The earpiece is better for hearing the radio in noisy environments, and still let's me hear and talk to people around me in the environment with my other ear. The earpiece also doesn't interfere with my hats or helmet. 73 Joe On Sun, Apr 16, 2023, 10:25 PM Clint Bradford via <clintbradford=[email protected]> wrote: I have been using 2500mAH AA cells in that FBA-25 tray for many years. 2500mAH is almost twice the capacity of the stock 1400mAH pack. |
