Smart search feature question
Ok so recently I’ve discovered the Smart Search feature. Easy to operate and I understand how the channels are saved. But my question is. After the radio preforms the smart search feature and collects what active frequencies it finds. For some reason I’m unable to talk on them when I key down. I’ve specifically tested to a local repeater and it does save it. Saves proper input and output frequencies. I hear traffic but when I key down it won’t open the repeater? What am I doing wrong? Is it something to do with the PL Tone? Does Smart Search not save that? Do I have to manually attempt to find the PL tone if I don’t know it and manually input the repeater? What’s the trick? Smart Search is a cool feature especially for travel.?
Thanks Matt |
开云体育You need to manually enter the transmit. PL tone, then save it in the same memory slot.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent by....Oh look!! Pretty lights!! On Sep 20, 2022, at 14:43, hotfootedhiker@... wrote:

开云体育I’m not sure on that. If you don’t save it, and leave the frequency, you will lose the tone and have to enter it again.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent by....Oh look!! Pretty lights!! On Sep 20, 2022, at 15:32, hotfootedhiker@... wrote:

Smart Search (manual page 48) and Tone Search (manual page 24) are separate functions. Use Smart Search first, to find a repeater of interest. Next, choose a Smart Search memory that got populated. Then, ?follow the Tone Search instructions. Phil KC6OEI

开云体育Remember, if you are looking for the transmit tone, you have to be monitoring the Input of the repeater, not the output.?You can also do a search for the repeater you are listening to and probably can find the info online.? I’m looking into the possible benefit of the Smart Search feature when your out the backcountry or in an area where you don’t have cell service or limited cell service. I know for the most part we do our research before going to a new area but that doesn’t always work. Just a. Good tool to have if you can work out the bugs. And figure it out at home lol

I’m not. I carry a Garmin Inreach Mini with me also. But my ht comes with me all the time especially to monitor under the Wilderness Protocol. But Mainly just trying to use, understand and utilize the features of the radio. If I can’t get it to work in my favor it is what it is. I do the same with my VX6R and Ft3D. Just playing and and understanding certain features of the radio Matt |
