Re: Nickel-Based Batteries
For everything you could possibly want to know about portable power, I have found?
CADEX to be THE authoritative source ... Their book, "Batteries in a Portable World," is a great reference work - and there is a Kindle edition! Instead of comparing NiCad and NiMH - more and more HTs are shipping with Lithium-Ion packs.? And hams everywhere want Li-Ion for their FT-60 radios. I sure don't know why ... -Properly maintained, NiMH will give you about 1,000 complete discharge-charge cycles. Li-Ion? About 350. -Li-Ion does work better in frigid weather. With a raise of hands, how many of us are living in Antarctica? -Li-Ion weighs a little less than NiMH counterparts. Well ... Just don't order super-sized fries with your next hamburger order ... -And Li-Ion will hold its charge - un-used - longer than NiMH. But I, personally, don't charge up my radios to set them aside for six months, un-used ... -And, if you want the maximum life from Li-Ion packs, you need to invest in a charger for them. -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com |

开云体育Sure, all that fancy stuff in the displays, especially with the newfangled color displays on some radios, suck up the battery juice a lot faster than what the FT60 has.

Re: Nickel-Based Batteries
Want to DOUBLE that battery life between charges?
Turn TX power DOWN to 2W ... and improve your antenna with a Smile 270, or a COmet/Diamond 17" model. If you are not making it at 2W with that antenna improvement, chances are you won't be with 4-5W. Want to save EVEN MORE battery life? Use a speaker-mic or an earpiece. Because what is the first thing you do when using an earpiece? Your turn the volume DOWN. And what eats up batteries? Transmitting and turning up the volume. Clint -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com |

开云体育After having my FT-60R for a week or so, I'm amazed at the
battery life. Yes the stock pack is fewer? MAh than a pack for a
newer HT, but I get far more hours on the FT-60 before it needs
charging. It must be a matter of less DSP and a not-so-fancy
display. ?

Re: FT60 Headphones?
开云体育Heh. And one more caveat - the Yaesu 3.5mm 4-ring plus isn’t quite standard. It’s about 1/2mm longer than an audio-standard plug, which means that an off-the-shelf plug most likely won’t work, unless it has a plastic shoulder you can carve 1/2mm from. And the audio out signal you want is the tip conductor, so that’s the one conductor that won’t make contact.? But. If you’re looking for a connector to cannibalize, something like this might serve: If it helps, I’ve attached the how-to doc for a speaker mic adapter I put together for our local ARES team when I discovered the issue. (For the math-inclined, the Sony 7506 cans are nominally?80Ω impedance, and what I forgot when I first did my filter calcs is that putting the two sides in parallel for mono effectively halves the impedance. :) Good luck! Then I'll find a pair of earbuds that I like, cut off whatever plug is on them, and then wire them to the right angle TRRS male plug and put the capacitors inside like you suggested. I found this plug on Amazon but I'm not about to spend almost $20 for a silly right angle plug: ___________________________________________ Instead what I may do is buy one of these: and on the un-terminated end install a 3.5 mm TRS JACK (easy to find and inexpensive) to plug the earbuds into and put the capacitors inside the jack housing.? I'm leaning towards this so I can use any headphones including my Sony 7506's if I want. Regardless, a pain in the butt and maybe not worth the effort.? Just wish I could buy something but I don't think it exists. 73, Gary K9GS |

There are several simple setups for the FT-60R: ones that? plug directly in to the radio, offering an earpiece, single-sided headset, or dual-sided headset. No adapters, no fuss. Earbud model -? Re: FT60 Headphones?
Unfortunately, the only solution I've found for the FT-60 has been to put a headset into an external speaker mic.
Also, the FT-60 has some nasty bias voltage (~3v!) on the audio output, which makes a loud thump in a headset when the radio unmutes. One solution is to make a short jumper cable with a 3.5mm stereo jack on one end and a mono plug on the other. In my case, driving a Sony 7506 headset, two .33?f dipped caps in parallel with the audio signal fit neatly in the stereo jack shell,?one lead to the tip and the other across both audio lines in the cable. They block the bias voltage, and also filter out a bit of low frequency noise. The thumping is not as much of an issue with earbuds, as the smaller diaphragms in the earbuds don't jump around as violently as the larger ones in over-the-ear phones. Rick KK6WHJ |

Re: What Are My Battery Options?
I just received several sets of 2600mAh?Powerex Low Self-Discharge Precharged AA Rechargeable Nimh Batteries (MH-8AAP-BH) I ordered a few days ago. Haven't tried the 2700mAh MH-8AAPRO-BH ones?(although I tend to think that they might be even thicker), but those are kind of expensive, anyway. I'll stick to the Eneloops, for now. Just my 2 cents. ? ? ? |

Re: FT60 Headphones?
开云体育I did something like that a while back.? I think you way also need a stereo jack to mono plug adapter between the earbuds and the CT-44.? My earbuds used a 3-conductor plug (no mic or volume control).? I have a bunch of different HTs and some make a rather loud pop in your ear when the squelch opens and/or closes.? I can't particularly remember what the FT-60 did. 73, Nick, AA3T Sent from our laptop On 4/27/2020 11:33 PM, Clint Bradford

Re: FT60 Headphones?
I would get a cheap speaker mic that fits the radio off eBay. Make sure it has an earphone jack on it, then plug your mono headset into that.?

开云体育CT-44 won't do it.? I don't think what you want is achievable.? I believe when you plug anything into the external speaker/microphone port it shuts off the built in speaker and microphone.? If you just plug headphones into the CT-44 you won't be able to talk.? You'll need a headset with a microphone if you want to communicate.?73 de AC7EW?
