Are you sure?

The US price for the radio is around $160 and the CT-44 is under $20 ($16.95 at HRO).

You might want to check your dealer(s) again.

Re: Audio Output

Sure - you would need a CT-44 adapter for the FT-60R - to "break out" the rig's jack to 3.5mm two-conductor for audio.

Re: Audio Output

I used to use one of those "cassette adapters" that plugged into the 1/8" jack to run an iPod through the car audio. It DID work with my FT-51 and also my BC3000XLT handheld scanner. Made for really awesome audio.?

Re: ISS Radio Usage

The ISS' setup is not transmitting ITS location, but acting as a digipeater for us all to use and enjoy!

I am probably ignorant but it seems to me that we don't need APRS
tracking transmissions from the ISS. With all the PC software and web
satellite tracking services we know where the ISS is located. It makes
more sense to me to leave it in FM repeater mode except when they have
skeds with classrooms and such. Low power budget maybe?

Re: Satellite ops

AMSAT-NA's Web site lets you see the next 50 passes for your grid square.

But because the ISS repositions itself fairly often, it is best to work its pass data just a week ahead?at a time max - as its Keplerian data changes slightly.

Hi Clint:

Yes, I have been looking through , which is a great site, like your radio site.? Thanks for all the great info you provide.

I also appreciate being able to post off-topic stuff here occasionally, like my balloon experiments (documented at ), since this is a great group of hams, and sheesh, I use my FT60 in all my projects anyway.

You were asking about my yagi, which is a cheesy tape-measure standard design, but works well.? For a motorized tracker, I will likely make one from wood dowel and adhesive copper foil, as I did for my balloon triple-2m-dipole jack antenna, which is cheap, light, and easy to tune by cutting or adding a bit of foil.? I may get an arrow antenna, but they are a bit pricey.

What I want to do is to send APRS data from a remote location (desert, valley, boat at sea...) that has no local aprs reception.? The tx antenna tracker would follow a sat when in view, the system would send some position and telemetry data (temperature...), and then wait for the next sat pass.? Yeah, there is an extra layer of complexity on a moving platform like a boat, but it is still feasible to track that out.? I would want a ground station at home tracking and receiving this as well, and gating it to the aprs net (if not done elsewhere).

So I am just considering the feasibility of doing something on the ham bands, using the existing system.

The other choices, would be to use a SPOT tracker, which has a subscription fee, but does have a large coverage map, and sends position and time data (I don't think any telemetry data can be appended though), or pay an unknown amount for a slice of time on an iridium sat.

My main question is how do I get data on the sats' predicted paths?? I have seen the current maps and such, but is there a way to pull tabular data, or use a prediction formula, so I can pre-load the remote system with predicted sat paths for months or years to come?

Please pardon if this is all newbie sort of stuff, as it is all new to me.

thx,? gil,? af7ez

Which one?

The ISS' packet station allows APRS data to be sent through it ... What are you thinking of doing?

Rotator, Yagi, computer-control - all standard fare!

What are you thinking of dong? Sure sounds like a "non-ham-radio" application of some sort (grin).

Re: Blank Space/Alpha Tags

I have many channels with spaces in their alpha tags. Using FT-60R programming software, it most certainly can be done.

Hi Clint, and anyone else with sat experience:

I have not yet tried working a sat, but want to give it a try. ?I have read up a bit on it and have a yagi. ?I think I know how to get started with voice tests. ?But a couple of questions:

Can packet or other data be sent through a sat voice repeater, or is data a special case?

Also, I am curious about the feasibility of setting up a motor-driven antenna to track a sat when it is in view. Has anyone done this? ?I want the station to be unattended for periods of time. ?This could be either an embedded system given initial data on sat trajectory, or one pulling sat path info from the internet. ?This would be for receiving data from a different system, and I will power the receiver when needed, drive the antenna, and log the data. ?I have no concerns with the electronics, motor drives, or programming, but am looking for any info on whether this has been done before, or any tips or tricks.

Thx, ?gil smith, af7ez

Yes, the blank space is inserted using a symbol that looks like a small u.

Sorry, all. None of these solutions work. I guess there's no way to insert a blank space.

There is a blank space in amongst the "special" characters (!@#$%^&*, etc.). Step through them slowly and you will find it. It's easy to miss if you go too fast.
