Not sure, but try pressing the "A" key to move forward one space.

I suspect something has been spilled on the radio, and removal of the keypad membrane and cleaning of the contacts and pads on the back is in order. Used to see this a lot on tv remotes.

Re: Aftermarket Batteries

Greetings Clint et al:

I think by "better" I meant "more convenient." I may also have misremembered the battery link folks have posted here...

Clint, you makes a convincing argument FOR NiMH batteries; but I'll check the mAH capacity of the Duracells in that stationery catalogue before I consider buying the Duracells. Maha batteries (and other brands!) may be great, but the shipping costs to Canada, and UPS's brokerage fees, can turn a good deal into, if not a nightmare, at the least a very disturbing dream.

Thanks for the concise and informative answer, Clint. I shall have to consider buying the AA holder for my FT-60.

They do retain their charge while un-used for a longer period of time. But "better" for radios? Not sure what you mean ... They certainly are rated at FEWER discharge-charge cycles than NiMH counterparts.

... is there any reason (other than price) not to use Duracell or other name-brand NiMh batteries?
If you compare the cost for each charge/discharge cycle, quality NiMH cells are actually a great bargain. You can darned near double the run time of the radio (from stock 1400mAH to NiMH 2500-2700mAH) with quality cells from Maha and others.

,,, Duracell ...
Good quality. Go for it!

I’ve used the Smiley on my FT-60 and it worked well.? Since it is a telescoping design, you can calculate an optimum length and use that if desired. ?My only recommendation is to take the end cap off and reassemble with some Loctite (the end cap fell off mine during a public service event one year).

Aftermarket Batteries

Greetings all:

I know the Lithium-ion batteries are supposed to be better for radios, and some of you swear by a particular aftermarket AA cell; Enerloop, I think the name was. But is there any reason (other than price) not to use Duracell or other name-brand NiMh batteries?

I ask because I've discovered that I can get a good deal from my employer's stationery supplier for Duracell batteries and charger. I probably won't buy them, since I don't have the AA holder yet.

Thanks,

Re: no heatsink compound under final transistor on yaesu ft-60r

This is so much of a non-issue ... I mean, I have owned FT-60R HTs since the moment they were available in the United States. Never once has one shut down nor failed in any manner due to over-heating of any component.

Now then with that said, I have NOT keyed the mic on high power for a straight 60 minutes on any of my radios ...

Re: duck

How about an antenna that costs less than one-half of the SRH-320A - but out-performs the Diamond on 2M?

The Smiley 270A.

Benefits: It is only 7" tall when you just need "traditional" performance. But need increased performance? Whip it out to its full length.

Beefy spring in the base to protect your HT's antenna connector, too.

Going to change out antennas often? Then get a quality, properly fitting BNC-to-SMA adapter, and purchase BNC antennas. It is up to you: Wear out a $20 adapter over time, or wear out the HT's receptacle and face a $80 repair job.

I use a Diamond SRH77CA.?
I can hit my repeater with 1/2 watt.?
The repeater is 18.3 miles away and I have direct line of sight to it.?
But, normally I'll use the 2 watt setting on that repeater for a bit more kick.?

Ok guys, I had a Diamond DA-77 (I think thats right) seemed to be a
slight improvement over the stock antenna. Don't have it anymore so what
is your idea of the best walk-about antenna for the ft-60? Are the
telescopic antennas better, are they more prone to break?
What do you use?

Yes, telescopic antennas AREA better than "rubber ducks" and yes, they ARE more prone to break.?
