Re: How ¡®Bout the FT-65?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have 2 VX-gr¡¯s and a FT-60. The FT-60 is IMO absolutely the easiest radio to manually program. With the function key and keys 1-4, you can program everything for repeaters except the name, without going into the menu settings. Very easy to do.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent through sub space hailing frequencies?using the Universal Translator.? On Dec 17, 2018, at 15:19, ron earl <[email protected]> wrote:

The VX 8 is easier than the FT 60

I have a Yaesu VX-8 with every accessory known. GPS, Bluetooth installed, External headset w/ blue tooth, external microphone, preloaded repeaters in memory, RT systems disc and cable. A really rugged, water resistant, after market antenna and in great shape. It was owned by a Regional Fire Commander in the North of California.

Re: How ?€?Bout the FT-65 ?
A salesman at redacted advised me to skip over the 65
and get another 60, or wait for the RT-70DR.
Not all progress is forward. I think the FT-65 is a price-point radio that came out to be closer in price to the various Baofeng, Wouxon, Puxing, etc. offerings. As you imply, the accessories are not compatible with the FT-60 (and earlier models) accessories. The FT-70DR adds the Yaesu digital mode, but even if you just use it for analog FM, I think you would be happier than with the FT-65. Some of the FT-60 accessories do work with it I would still be inclined to the FT-60 of the 3. Check the eHam.net reviews. How ¡®Bout the FT-65?
Just talked to a fellow ham who was considering the Yaesu FT-65 HT.
I mean, a radio labelled "65" must be better than a "60," right? Not necessarily. The FT-60R has 1,000 memories. The '65 - about 800 less. The FT-60R receives - essentially - 108-to-a-gig. The '65 receives?136-174?and 400-480. The included battery pack with the FT-60R - properly charged - will?provide?about 1,000 discharge-charge cycles. The pack with the '65??About 300. In reading the two manuals for the FT-65, they describe unusual splits?within the same band -?but not the capability to program 2M / 440 split?in a memory for working the voice FM?satellites. The FT-60R has the optional FBA-25 AA alkaline case. Populate it with?AA alkalines or AA NiMH cells, and you have full TX power available. No?such accessory s available from Yaesu for the FT-65. BUT - The FT-65 had an LED flashlight! It will blink our "S O S" for you,?too! And the '65 receives the commercial FM broadcast band ... The FT-65 is about $120. The FR-60R $136-155. -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com |

He had a link to another site. He lists a charger, mic, etc. The total is $295.

Hi Nolan,
¡°and all related items.¡± Can you give us an idea what that means? Possibly list the items And if you can tell us: How old is your radio, how did you use it, asking price or best offer, how do you want to be compensated, ie will PayPal work for you? Will you want to sell all as a bundle or can we pick and choose? You know these kind of details. 73 Wassim WN6WJN |
Re: Newbie Here In SoCal
congrats Vic, I like mine and my son here in BC just got one.
they are quite full of abilities, I just worked into satellite AO-91 while standing in my sons back yard. It wasnt a strong contact but for just a hand held with the stock whip , I was impressed, nice way to end my vacation out here, 2 hrs before the flight home. good luck, Bob VE3CGA |
Re: VAC-370 vs VAC-370B
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have 2 FBA-25A battery cases and 12 Enloop AA batteries. Indeed, the snap will not close with the batteries in place; however, the FBA-25A is still a good option. The charged batteries provide plenty of power and have a long shelf life with minimal power loss.?Another option is to modify the FBA-25A to use 18650 rechargeable batteries. Here¡¯s on example:? Re: VAC-370 vs VAC-370B
Oops! Small typo correction:?
Previous message read: "Probably, two sets will include at least 12 AAA cells, so you have at least one charged load to use while one is charging." That should have said: "Probably, two sets will include at least 12 AA cells, so you have at least one charged load to use while one is charging." Sorry 'bout that! 73, JERRY, N3AA |
Re: VAC-370 vs VAC-370B
As an alternative to buying new FT-60 battery(ies) that might be needed, you might want to consider switching to using the FT-60 battery tray which holds a set of six AA cells. You can then use rechargable NiMH AA cells, particularly the smaller of the two Eneloops AA sizes which will fit (the larger size is still AA, and has about 30% more capacity than the smaller, but it might not fit into the FT-60).?
Costco has these in sets that include a 4-cell charger and various collections of the AA's you need, AAA's, and adapters to use the cells as replacements for C cells and D cells. In order to charge the six cells at one time, you need two sets so you have two chargers. Probably, two sets will include at least 12 AAA cells, so you have at least one charged load to use while one is charging. I actually have three sets so that one charger and eight cells can go in my camera bag for the outboard flash (it requires four AA cells and was designed for ordinary AA batteries, but the NiMH's last much longer than alkalines before needing to be replaced with the spare set). 73, JERRY, N3AA |
VAC-370 vs VAC-370B
My apologies if this has been asked before.
I have a VAC-370 drop in charger that I acquired in 2006.? I'm putting my FT-60 back in service and have noticed that the equivalent charger is labelled "VAC-370B".? Is there any difference between the 370 and 370B, and if so, when did this change happen?? Interestingly, HRO seems to still label the charger as "VAC-370". Thanks, Bill, W1WH |
