Battery Eliminator Info?
Has anyone had experience of using the dummy battery cases fitted with a voltage regulator that let you use the FT60 via the 12 volt socket fitted in cars? These units are available from ebay sellers in China. Are they safe to use? Has anyone had any issues with them? 73, David - G4EDR |

Re: C.A.R.L.A. dual pl tone
Most certainly Riley, Remember the CARLA system only uses one tone at a time. ? A "local" tone for local repeater conversations, ?and another tone they call a "link" tone for conversations that require the repeaters to be linked together (in other words using the entire system). Just program one channel(memory) with the local tone desired for that repeater, ?and the next channel with it's linking tone. That way you simply select either your "local" channel or the "linking" channel ?for that particular repeater. A more full and better explaination of how the system works is on the URL :? ?? ? ? I hope you had a VERY Merry Christmas and enjoy the FT-60 Dave J ? ?AF0DJ

Re: Just got my radio tonight Merry Christmas!
开云体育Welcome guys from an Old Dog! ? A newbie net is a great idea as you will attract old dogs as well as newbies. I would suggest a local simplex frequency. You can meet and greet on a newbie net and find out what repeaters folks use. Then you can meet them on the repeater as well. ? When I lived in CT, a bunch of us would communicate on 146.580 MHz FM Simplex on the way into work, If conditions were not good, we would use a local repeater. However, no matter what, we would always welcome newbies or those “new” to the group. ? Welcome to the hobby and Merry Christmas! ? George N1YAE ? From: FT-60@... [mailto:FT-60@...]

开云体育Hey Bill Congrats on your radio and welcome to the hobby. I would like to say that as you read the manual keep some notes in your own words as how things are done. Re: software (aka TNC) and cable for FT-60
开云体育Hi tpaul12b I am not sure if you are asking what TNC "Terminal Node Connector" to use with the FT-60R, or if you are asking what software to use to achieve TNC functionality. If your question is the first one, then I would suggest the Kantronics?KPC-3+ or KPC-9612+?TNCs. They are standard TNCs that many packet operators use and thus you can get plenty of Tech. Support from them come setup time. If you are looking at a software solution, IMHO I would not go there but if you must check the I still say go with Kantronics and check this web site:? The reason why I favor a hardware TNC is 1) reliability and 2) if it breaks you know what component you need to replace. Sound Card based TNCs tend to be hard to setup and control. As to cables, go with that the TNC needs, not what the radio needs. It's easier that way. I hope I gave you a starting point. If you still have questions please come back with them. Also sign each message with your name and call sign, I think it is a Group policy, and clean up the reply by deleting all that is irrelevant. 73 Wassim WN6WJN |

Re: FT-60 with Astron power supply
It should work fine.? I use mine directly from my car's electrical system, which if anything should be less well-regulated, but it works well. If you want to be?extra cautious, a?fuse of about?2 amps in the cord that feeds your radio might be prudent, though?the fuse?should?make no?difference?unless there's already a fairly serious malfunction in your HT. --Rich/AG6QR ---In FT-60@..., <kc6zzg@...> wrote : Hi all, |

Re: FT-60 with Astron power supply
开云体育I guess you would be able to power your rig with a billion amp power?supply, as long as the voltage is correct.
I work on a max of 14 volts, being my lead acid battery charged voltage, but prefer a 10 volt supply. The higher the voltage, the more that is dissipated??as heat?
Wouldn't like to comment on your wall wart, if it comes down to 12 volts under load, fine. My 5 volt?wall warts of which I have dozens, all show 5 volts (plus?a little) on no load, and on?load, the voltage may go up? or down, but just a small amount.??

Hi all, I have an old adapter that will no longer power the radio that I was going to cut the cord off and attach to the Astron. Is this possible to do without damaging the radio? I also use the radio in the house and the "wall wart" won't allow transmitting.?? I also noticed that the "wall wart" has 17 volts unloaded and 12 volts with the radio attached and no battery and 10 volts with battery attached.?? Does this sound normal?? 20 years ago, I might have just hooked the radio up and done a smoke test, but I'd thought I'd ask first.? Common sense comes with age.? Sometimes. Robert |

Re: FT-60 with Astron power supply

开云体育I have used a cigar lighter cord sure, sometimes you get alternator whineas its not filtered well.? I also picked up a 12 V cord from Yaesu? for the ft60 and hook it to 12.6 V SLA battery for long term operation a 8AH will run that puppy for days. On the older FT60 , take the battery pack out if you are going to run it from 12vdc for any length of time or you will overcharge the battery. On 12/16/2015 01:56 PM, Robert May
