Re: no heatsink compound under final transistor on yaesu ft-60r

This is so much of a non-issue ... I mean, I have owned FT-60R HTs since the moment they were available in the United States. Never once has one shut down nor failed in any manner due to over-heating of any component.

Now then with that said, I have NOT keyed the mic on high power for a straight 60 minutes on any of my radios ...

Re: duck

How about an antenna that costs less than one-half of the SRH-320A - but out-performs the Diamond on 2M?

The Smiley 270A.

Benefits: It is only 7" tall when you just need "traditional" performance. But need increased performance? Whip it out to its full length.

Beefy spring in the base to protect your HT's antenna connector, too.

Going to change out antennas often? Then get a quality, properly fitting BNC-to-SMA adapter, and purchase BNC antennas. It is up to you: Wear out a $20 adapter over time, or wear out the HT's receptacle and face a $80 repair job.

I use a Diamond SRH77CA.?
I can hit my repeater with 1/2 watt.?
The repeater is 18.3 miles away and I have direct line of sight to it.?
But, normally I'll use the 2 watt setting on that repeater for a bit more kick.?

telescopic antennas better, are they more prone to break?
What do you use?

Yes, telescopic antennas AREA better than "rubber ducks" and yes, they ARE more prone to break.?

It would probably be ok to just listen, although it will?take longer to get a full charge.?

I havent tried it, but curious whether the std charger would at least have enough juice to allow monitoring only while charging the FT60...

HI all,

I have gone through older posts, but did not see any specifically related...I got my FT-60R with the std rechargeable battery and the PA-44B 12V 2A ac charger.?

I understand from the manual that I cannot charge the battery and use (on) the radio at the same time...Is this limitation due to the current capacity of the std charger or the charging circuit of the radio / std battery?
If I connect a regulated 12V supply/car adapter with a higher current capacity, eg, 5A, would this allow me to use the radio while charging it?

TIA,

You can charge the FT-60 while it is ON and receive ONLY. The charger does not have enough power to allow transmitting and you may damage the charger is you try

I wonder if everyone else has taken there ht apart as I have done and discovered that there was no heatsink compound under the final transistor so I applied some to the final so it will pull the heat away from the final and now on high power I noticed it heats the chassis up much faster so that should be cooling the final, so has anyone checked there ht? and does yours have heatsink compound? thanks, jerry w5kaw

Hi folks:

Well, we were three hours late, but we finally launched AZHAL-1 at 4pm MST on Saturday.? We made it to 93,000 feet.? We got some cool video, but still need to edit and post it.? A preliminary launch/recovery summary is available.? There are some interesting graphs from our sensor data, and some interesting stats like hitting 138 miles-per-hour on the way down!? Check back in a few days as we will get some pics and video added to this page.

It just takes getting on the air locally as much as you can. And making sure that repeater owners' sites and club sites' citations are correct. And even tough the same systems may be on list after list, always check to make sure their CTCSS hasn't changed ...? or Web site URL is correct ... it's almost like maintaining a club membership roster ... K6LCS' Southern California Frequency List

I have just updated my "Southern California Ham Radio Frequency List" for 2Q 2014.

It has more than 80 repeater systems, simplex freqs, and miscellaneous frequencies that I always have at hand programmed in my demo FT-60R and Puxing UV973 radios. The list is weighed towards ENJOYMENT of? the 2m/440 amateur radio airwaves!

Most listings have URLs to repeater owner sites and/or club sites.
