Yes. ?The wall wart does not put out enough power. ?If you use the car charger into the side port with over 3 amps, it should work ok. Lots of people use this setup for mobile use with a speaker mic and outside antenna. ?Trying to use the wall wart or rapid charger will either cause a nasty 60 cycle hum, or the radio will shut down when you key up.

I have gone through older posts, but did not see any specifically related...I got my FT-60R with the std rechargeable battery and the PA-44B 12V 2A ac charger.?
I understand from the manual that I cannot charge the battery and use (on) the radio at the same time...Is this limitation due to the current capacity of the std charger or the charging circuit of the radio / std battery?
If I connect a regulated 12V supply/car adapter with a higher current capacity, eg, 5A, would this allow me to use the radio while charging it?
