Re: Digital user manual (was Re: Re: field programming)

I have been doing this on my iPhone and Droid for quite a while now. It is very convenient to have the manual for quick look-ups of procedures or commands. I also keep a spread sheet with the frequencies and channels that are loaded on my various radios.

Digital user manual (was Re: Re: field programming)

Nick Arnett

Not sure if I have mentioned it here previously, but I recently received a Kobo Reader (like a Kindle, but somewhat more open, quite small and light) and realized that I could load all of my PDF user manuals on it. ?Among them, of course, is the FT-60 manual. ?It isn't quite as convenient as it could be, but it is a lot better than nothing. ?It accepts various formats, so I've copied all of my various ARES/RACES, CERT and other documentation onto it, too. ?I've added other radio manuals... pretty much any manual I own that is available in digital form, which is just about everything these days. ?Even things that only include a paper manual often have the digital version available on-line.

I believe that you can do much of the same with a Kindle - but last I knew, you have to use software to convert documents first.

Handy way to carry around lots of text info, long battery life (two weeks), screen that is readable even in bright sunlight. The Kobo does grayscale, too, so images aren't bad.

Re: Signalink Cable to conect FT-60 to Signalink USB

Here you go ...

Clint

... source for a cable to connect the FT-60 to a Signalink USB ...

Sorry if this has been addressed before but...

Hi Fellow FT-60R enthusiasts

Has any of you found a nice belt carrying case? I would love to dress up my FT-60R when I go out with it.

If anyone has designed one, or found a good design, I would love to see it.

Thanks

Signalink Cable to conect FT-60 to Signalink USB

Does someone have source for a cable to connect the FT-60 to a Signalink USB, or a diagram to build a cable. Thanks

Work ISS During JOTA Next Weekend!

Listen for ISS Operation During JOTA

Astronaut Mike Fossum KF5AQG is planning to participate in JOTA from the International Space Station during using the call sign NA1SS.

His schedule is somewhat flexible on the weekends but he will not be available for every pass. The typical crew work periods are 0800-1930 UTC and they are sometimes available a bit later.

When available, Mike will be operating on the standard ISS frequencies:
ITU Region 1 (Europe, Russia and Africa) uplink: 145.200 MHz FM
ITU regions 2 & 3 (everywhere else) uplink: 144.49 MHz.
Worldwide downlink for NA1SS: 145.800 MHz FM.

I got the Kenwood adatpers. They work fine with the Baofeng, by cutting a SMALL amount of plastic from the area around the LED. For the FT-60R and my Yaesu VX-170/177, no go.

Re: field programming

Just in case you only have email access at the moment...
?
1. Go into VFO mode using the V/M key
2. type in the receive frequency
3. Press F/W, then 1 to set the squelch type
4. Press F/W, then 2 to set the squelch frequency
5. Hold down F/W for more than a second?and the next available memory location will flash in the top right corner of the display. Use the channel knob to change to another location if required, then press F/W to store.
?
If you need a non standard offset for the transmit, repeat the above, but when storing hold down PTT while you press F/W

Thanks.

Bill -?? Good Question.

I can only tell you about XP - I don't have Win-7.

I bought the Yaesu ADMS-1J "Advanced Data Management System for the FT-60"? by "RT Systems Inc." and it has worked well for me.? I bought it from the Ham Radio Outlet (HRO) store just down the road from my QTH in Manassas VA.? The RT folk's web site is

If you buy one of these ADMS-1Js, and find that it does NOT work on Win 7, please let us know about it here on the reflector.

I would like advice on whitch cable to buy to program a FT-60R using Commander software. I prefer a usb cable. Some cable and software combinations do not work at least for me, as tryied the ttl2.usb with windows 7 and failed, so returned the ttl2.usb. Would like a usb cable that has been known to work with windows 7, and backwards to windows xp also.
Would consider just a serial cable also. Any information on make and model of cable appreciated. I see alot of cables for sale on Ebay but not sure if any of them actually work?

Thank's,
Bill

Re: Is there something special about the car charger made by yaesu?

Back about eight years ago there was a problem with VX-150's blowing finals. It was thought to be when on high power and the car charger. I tested my VX-150 to see what voltage was needed to both put out full power and charge and measured 8.9v. I then modified my car charger to 9v. I use that same charger on my FT-60R. I have checked and it does put out full power at 9v. Battery charge seems to work as well.

You can read about it at:

Now as to keeping the battery from overcharging, I have a simple solution. If you cover up the terminal in the lower corner of the battery compartment it doesn't charge. I keep a piece of paper in there that I just slide over the terminal.

With a battery pack attached, that would not allow maximum transmit power.

Supply Voltage: Nominal: 7.2 V DC, Negative Ground

Operating:

6.0 ~ 16.0 V DC (EXT DC Jack)

11.0 ~ 16.0 V DC (EXT DC Jack with Charging)
