A couple of comments...

1. Gulya adapter for BNC to SMA

2. Got a 6' long BNC/BNC, cut it in half, and attached PL-259s to the cut ends. Much more sturdy than some of the BNC aftermarket plugs on the market.

3. Bracket is 3/4" aluminum angle from the local hardware store. Spacers are wood - same source.

4. 1/4 bolts (cap screw style), wing nuts used to secure bracket to Arrow antenna.

5. "Quick release" plate bolted/glued (JB Weld) to bottom of radio bracket.

6. LARGE rubber bands from local marine supply house used to secure radio to the bracket.

7. Bracket padding done with sheet foam rubber from local upholstery shop.

8. Cup hooks added to hand microphone, headphones.

9. Mounting bar on base of MFJ diplexer and tapped screws into radio mounting bracket.

Re: Hi Newbie seeks help

I opted for the MFJ diplex instead, mostly due to considerations of mounting the antenna on my camera tripod and where some bolt holes were going to go. In either case (MFJ or Arrow diplexer), the insertion loss is at most, 1/2 dB. If you are REALLY worried, go full duplex with TWO HTs. A friend of mine has a pair of Wouxuns for just this. I also started with a VX-170 (2 meters) and VX-177 (70 cm), as I had them around. If you really want a CHEAP, but excellent receiver, then the Baofeng works well. 2+ watts for satellite work is a bit of a push, but I have done it. 5 watts on transmit gives much more reliable results.

I started with the two HTs and bought just the antenna. When I went on to using the FT-60R or my Wouxun, then I needed to get a diplexer (MFJ calls them, incorrectly, a duplexer).

I have more problems with surrounding houses getting in the way more than anything else.

Bill Boyer

Not enough to worry about. Many hams have successfully worked satellites with that exact setup. Now if you got the ports swapped on the splitter, it probably wouldn't work.

In a virtual machien as 'Xp mode' this is ok.
The problem seems to come from the version of programming tools (VB6)
not support the X64 Os as Seven.

Re: Water Damaged - suggestions...

Thanks for the many suggestions...

Good news is the battery pack is still functional - so at worse I now have a back-up for my second FT-60.

Now I have my FT-60 sitting in a container of rice...crossing my fingers for the best. But sadly I don't have much hope, even Yaesu indicated that it would be a lost cause..

Mike.

The way I understand it, and have been told, yes, you could use a 12 volt gell cell battery, but you definately want to take the battery pack out! Cause, like I said, I have been told, that the battery pack will get cooked! Correct me if I am wrong on this please!

I confirmed the "cooked battery" results when using 12vdc external power through a phone call with a Yeasu Tech Rep a couple of months ago.

I use the empty AA cell adapter to keep crap from getting into the battery compartment when using external power.

Re: ???¨¨????¡ã Re: Water Damaged - suggestions...

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The word for what folks are suggesting, is a desiccant.? If you know anyone who works for the phone company, (Splicer/repairman) they keep that stuff stocked in their trucks.? It is used to keep moisture out of cable splices, or to dry them out. ?(it is the same crap that comes in a small bag, in most consumer electronics that says ¡°Do Not Eat¡±)

?

The dry rice is a GREAT desiccant.? If you put some in your salt shakers the salt in them will not chunk up, and clog.

?

I think a combination of the rice plan, with some mild heat, over time might be the second best idea yet.? Sending it to Yeasu comes in first.

Pour 1 cup of rice into the container, place the HT on top of it, and seal the tupperware container. Check in 24 hours - the rice should absorb the moisture that has gotten into the radio. If that doesn't work, then I suppose sending it back to Yaesu would be my next step...
