Hey! Glad to be on this great group with a lot of activity.

I got my Yaesu FT60R in the US as I am a US licensed ham, but I am in Europe for the next year and a half for work. I have been able to hit the 2 meter repeaters using my FT60R, but none of the 440 ones. In checking out why, my ham friends here (Radio Club des Ardennes) and I discovered that the repeater shift for 440 is different in Europe. There appears to be no work around (that I know of) for this in the manual.

Does anyone have any tips on this? Is it possible, for instance, to reprogram the radio to make it a FT60E using the software (which I purchased when I got the radio). Or will it be simply impossible to hit the 440 repeaters in Europe?

Thanks for any help!

Kirby,

You don't need a mod. See Menu item #45 "SHIFT" to change the offset.

Re: Question about FT60R vs. the FT60E

What is different about 440 repeaters in Europe??The offset amount or offset direction?? Turn off the automatic repeater shift and enter what you need.? You can also check under split shifts and get what you need.? Remember, the Europe band plans are way different than in the US.

FT-60R's manufactured before early 2013 came with a wall wart that can
be plugged into the DC jack to charge the battery.

FT-60R's manufactured after that can not be charged by plugging a wall
wart (or a cigarette lighter adapter) directly into the radio. The
charging scheme was modified to comply with a California law requiring
charging devices to automatically shut-off if the charge voltage is over
5v. Apparently, Yaesu removed the connection from the DC jack to the
battery to accomplish this. These units are supplied with a drop-in
charging cradle (with auto shut-off) that is powered by a wall wart.

Re: Charger Problem

My understanding is that the FT-60 has no internal charger. Am I misinformed? I have a newer model purchased less than two years ago, and accirding to the manual it runs off the DC power plug but does not charge the battery.

I have been using the FTB-60 program from G4HFQ Software with my FT-60 for years.? It has a built in Comport Detector Routine that helps geting them set correctly.? I think the price is $15.? There is also good information about cables on the website.? (http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/).

I have also used RT systems software, and Chirp with other radios with no problems.

My solution was to add two filter capacitors to a mono-to-stereo adapter cable between the speaker mic and the headset. A pair of dipped ceramic caps was 50 cents, together the plug and jack about $2 plus a short piece of cable. Attached is a pdf with details.

When travelling, I keep two memory banks. L1 - bottom of two meter band U1 - top end 2 meter band
and L2 bottom end of 70cm band with U2 being the upper end. Running memory scans will cover it all.
I also monitor simplex.

Re: FT-60 headphone thump?

My solution was to add two filter capacitors to a mono-to-stereo adapter cable between the speaker mic and the headset. A pair of dipped ceramic caps was 50 cents, together the plug and jack about $2 plus a short piece of cable. Attached is a pdf with details.
