Re: Battery Charger

Henry Dralle

Why not use a Maha C777 plus charger for $59 from HRO. It charges the battery seperate from the radio and conditions it as well. I charge all of my packs on it and it works great. Batteries are charged in 2 hours or less and there is thermal protection for the batteries. Also there are expandabilty options in the charger and the ability to use it with a 12v power source.

While we are at it, is there a drop in charger for the supplied
FNB-83 battery. I'm told that the CD-29B rapid battery charger is not yet
available. Is there an aftermarket drop-in charger that allows the FNB-83
to be charged (relatively quickly) outside the radio unit itself? I seen it
suggested in an e-ham review or two that the VX-150 accessories will work.
Is that correct as respects charging the FNB-83?
[FJ>] This I leave to Brad who posted some news today about the availability
of the drop-in charger and its proported ability to charge 3 technology
types.

I assume you refer to the CD-29B. I've not seen a previous post
with regard to that unit here. Perhaps you are referring to a posting or
article elsewhere. If so, can you provide a reference or link. I am most
interested ... and assume the "3 technologies" to which you refer are:
NiCD, NiMH and Li-ON.

In talking this afternoon with HRO (ordering a Diamond SRH-77CA)
they advise that it is imminent but not yet there. Seems a bit pricey at
$79.95, but ... I see no other choices on the horizon. It was also their
impression that it was a battery-only (as opposed to whole radio) "drop in"
unit. That would work for me. Less bulky and thus more easily packed for
trips? The FBA-25A could easily serve to power the unit while the FNB-83
was getting charged.

Hello all I thought I would throw in my $0.02. I acquired my FT-60R a
couple weeks ago, at the time I bought it I also purchased a
MH-C777+II.
For those of you not familiar with this charger it is a universal
battery charger-analyzer that will charge and analyze any battery
1.2-14V NiMh, NiC, Li-Ion, & Li-Po.
Point being with a factory battery or battery case you cannot ask for
more,
If you want an idiot & bullet proof charger try this one out.
Now on to my comment/ question, is anyone else having a problem with
the rubber gasket that goes around the battery, the one on mine will
not stay put (PITA) , I also changed the antenna for a comet SMA-24
and now I have the best portable I have ever had.
As a parting note Thank You for supporting a free exchange of posts
that are not groomed only to the thoughts of one, but serves the many.
