Might you also have Set # 41 / RXSAVE enabled (page 59 in the manual)? Setting both RXSAVE and TXSAVE to "Off" on my radios seems to stop the flashing "SAVE" on the display screen.

Cannot turn off transmit saver mode even with menu item 53 turned off the save icon and continuously flashes during transmit.
Any ideas would be appreciated
